View Full Version : W32/Waledac.gen.1
Just noticed since wednesday 8-4-09 when running a full scan with Spyware Doctor, McAfee Security Center removes files from Spyware Doctor\avdb\temp
and flags them as 'W32/Waledac.gen.1'
BF554088.vbt being one of them. I assume these are false positives? Ive been using both for a few years now with no problems.
Any ideas?

A bit confusing post.
If McAfee removes friles from Spyware Doctor, you need to report this on the McAfee site as an FP.
Are you running Spyware Doctor or Spyware Doctor with Antivirus?
Hi haapy, I will post on McAfee just thought someone else might have had the same problem. I'm using Spyware Doctor Without A/V:)

What is happening is that the products from competing companies are butting heads more and more as they try to protect the same resources.
Pretty soon the Antispyware mantra is going to be the same as with Antivirus.
Run only one active protection of each with backup non-active scanners.
Hi haapy, I sent the following 2 files to McAfee and just received this message
current detection [74fc3a6d.vbt bf554088.vbt]
"The file received is infected and can be detected and removed with our current DAT
files and engine. It is recommended that you update your DAT and engine files and scan
your computer again".
I disabled McAfee and run a full scan with Spyware Doctor, No files were deposited in the Spyware Doctor\avdb\temp folder.

I just checked my Spyware Doctor\avdb\temp folder and it is empty.
I wonder if that is the SD quarantine file? Not sure. Just for grins, why don't you open SD and check the Settings, Quarantine and see if there is anything in there.
Good idea haapy but no coconut this time! :) I thought that S/D might have found something and McAfee swooped in and deleted it but S/D global action, Quarantine & History all clear! And Spyware Doctor\avdb\temp folder is empty.

Then I am stumped. I have a feeling it is some FP on McAfee's side.
You did say that McAfee removed whatever was in the temp file. Check McAfee's quarantine.
Perhaps you did have a quarantined file in the temp and McAfee did remove it.
Yes the two files [74fc3a6d.vbt bf554088.vbt] are in McAfee quarantine but if Spyware Doctor\avdb\temp is a quarantine folder why did S/D not log them? I think you are probably right about the FP. After a few updates it'll probably disappear ! :D

I was just guessing about that, I do not know for sure.

Well, I think that you are OK. If McAfee is like SD, those files will not disappear, you probably need to empty or delete the McAfee quarantine.
Oh yes I'ved dumped them, I meant the problem would disappear! :)

Ah, got it. My guess then is that SD found something and quarantined it, then McAfee found it and quarantined it, then you deleted it from McAfee quarantine. So I think it is all done and gone!:D
I can't really see that S/D did find anything haapy because nothing was flagged in S/D. I'll post on it again if anything comes up!
