Hi,

I am new here and i need some help please.

My problem is i have been using the paid version of spyware doctor with antivirus, and the paid version of threatfire very happily for a while now and i have been very pleased with them.

But just lately i have had trouble with spyware doctor and nvidia drivers, basically when i come to update my nvidia drivers after i have uninstalled the old ones, and cleared out my comp, i then reboot, load new drivers reboot once more and find my screen res is locked at 800x600 on 8bit, and i cannot change it, i have contacted pc tools and i have been scouring the internet for answers, the fix i was given on the net was to uninstall spyware doctor with antivirus and all would be well, i have heard nothing from pc tools as off yet.

Well i did uninstall spyware doctor and much to my surprise it worked i am now back to normal with control over my settings, threatfire seems to have no problems at all with nvidia drivers.

This only happens when getting the latest drivers from nvidia.

I tried it again tonight and it is still the same, locks my screen res at 800x600 after loading drivers and rebooting once i unistall spyware doctor it is fine.

Is there anyway to carry on using spyware doctor with nvidia drivers without having to uninstall and reload it all the time.

At the moment i am using threatfire which i have been assured is just as good.

Sorry for the long post, just wanted to give you all the facts.

Many thanks.

Mallard.

Right click Spyware Doctor with Antivirus, click shut down.

Load your software.

Click Spyware Doctor with antivirus to restart it.

No need to uninstall and re-install.

Since you have Spyware Doctor with Antivirus AND Threatfire, please open Spyware Doctor and click Intelliguard. You should see Behavior Guard disabled. That is because it is the merged version of ThreatFire. You run one or the other, not both.

Hi Mallard,

I assume that you are running Windows XP? I had a similar problem with graphics drivers, but not nvidia driver. I recall that the problem was one of two things which you might try:

First idea: Delete the monitor under device manager and then reboot. That might fix it.

Second idea: In safe mode, delete (just delete, don't uninstall) the current graphics card driver and delete the monitor. Reboot.

Hi thank you both for the replies.

Happy i have tried stopping sd but it does not work it still locks my screen, it only releases it when uninstalling sd.

You are quite right about behavior guard it is disabled, i only run sd and tf because pc tools suggests it to compliment each other.

Gonetoplaid yes i am running xp pro sp3, have tried your suggestion before but that did not work tried just about everything to solve this problem, going to forget sd i think and just run tf it is not causing any problems with nvidia driver updates.

Many thanks to both of you.

Mallard,

I just checked my other PC with the NVidia card. I recall that there was some conflict some time ago, can not recall exactly.

However, I do remember the solution... it was to put the Nvidia Display Driver Service in manual mode. No conlflicts since and the driver works fine.

You might want to give it a try.
