Just wondering what it takes to get SD w/AV to function with Safari? Or is it even possible? At the present time whenever I do use Safari, SD is not picking up on the cookies from different sites. Does SD look for the default browser or something like that? And then go from there. It functions flawlessly with Internet Explorer, but since IE has a lot of troubles with some sites, and at those same sites Safari doesn't, I sometimes use Safari. I do not however want to leave myself open to threats/tracking cookies and the like. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi
At this time the Safari browser is not monitored by Spyware Doctor. As far as I know monitored browsers are Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox.
Hope that helps

Thanks for that info, I appreciate it. For the time being, I guess I'll have to put up with IE's problems. :( Maybe I'll give Firefox a try.

Well, as I previously mentioned in my other post, I said I was going to try Firefox. I downloaded it and it won't even run. :( So I guess FF is out of the question. I tried running it in Adminstrative mode as well, nothing. When I went to uninstall it, the uninstaller said that FF needed to be out of memory first before I could proceed. I looked in Task Manager and sure enough, it was running. But when I ran it, it didn't come up and go to the Internet, it just put it in memory. I guess I'll just put up with IE.

Just checking back to see if there is any update as to when/if Safari will ever be supported by SD W/AV or not? Can someone let me know either way please? Is it even in the works? Thank you much.

At the moment, we are focusing on FF and IE. As for Safari, we'll consider this in future versions. SiteGuard operates at protocol layer so malicious websites will still be blocked through Safari.

Hi QuickDraw,

Can I ask what version of IE you are using? If it is IE 6 or 7 try upgrading to IE 8 to see if it can display the websites that you mention. IE 8 is more standards compliant than older versions of IE and has a better chance of rendering (drawing) the websites correctly. You could also try compatibility mode in IE 8 if the websites that are giving you trouble still don’t work. IE 8 mostly supports CSS 2.1 and HTML 4.01.

Apple recently released Safari 4.05 to address a lot of security issues. If you have not yet updated to 4.05, I would suggest you do so as soon as possible.

If you are interested, IE 9 is going to address almost all of the websites compatibility issues that IE 8 has. IE 9 will be much faster and will fully support CSS 3, HTML 5, SVG and a much improved Javascript engine:cool:.

Please see the following links for more info on the upcoming IE 9 (I have read that IE 9 will be released sometime in 2011).

http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2010/03/16/html5-hardware-accelerated-first-ie9-platform-preview-available-for-developers.aspx

As a side point:
I realise that HTML 5 is currently in draft form and no browser can fully implement a standard that has not been finalised. I have read that Microsoft will do the best job it can by implementing as many features of HTML 5 as possible.

There is a developer version of IE 9 available to download but it is not recommended for daily browsing since it doesn’t even have an address bar!:D It is solely a proof of concept program rather than a truly usable one.

I didn’t know that the SiteGuard feature of Spyware Doctor worked at the protocol level and so can protect your internet activity regardless of which browser. That’s reassuring to know. Thanks for asking about this QuickDraw.:)

I hope the above info is of some help to you. Good luck:).

AChen & jimboc007, I appreciate your replies. Thanks so much for your prompt replies....looking forward to SD W/AV functioning completely with Safari. I prefer Safari as, right now, it is much faster as compared to IE. I'm already working with the latest version of both Browsers.
