:confused:Hi everyone! This is my first posting. My question is I'm running a new Dell XPS420 pc, Vista Home Premium 64bit SP1, 6GB-RAM, Intel Core2 Quad CPU-2.40Ghz, 500GB-HDD, with McAfee Security Ctr pre-installed. I was monitoring this forum and learned from same a 64bit version of Spyware Doc 6 w/AV was released last month-(version .440) and would like to install same-(as I already have a license for version .386 in my previous Dell computer-(no longer being used online). However from postings in this forum I have read that these two programs-(SpyDoc & McAfee) have software conflicts and it was suggested to run only one-(although I have both installed on my older Dell-(running XP, SP2, 2GB-RAM), w/o any problems. I had to renew my McAfee Sec'y Ctr recently-(as had expired), and same is my only security software currently installed-(*I disabled Windows Defender already). I would like to have just one company's security software installed-(to prevent any software conflicts), so would it be more advisable to uninstall McAfee Sec'y Ctr, then use McAfee's removal tool to complete uninstall, then purchase PC Tools Internet Security Suite program-(so I have full coverage), or shoiuld I try and install SpyDoc 6 w/AV and keep McAfee Sec'y Ctr? Any help would be appreciated, many thanks!!!

My humble opinion.

Remove McAfee.

For me Spyware Doctor with Antivirus does the job.

I have a router (hardware firewall) and use the Windows firewall.

I have Avira and Malwarebytes as backup standalone scanners, but so far they have not found anything beyond what SD/AV did.

If you want the added protection of the PCTIS, then go for it. One can not be too secure these days.

PCTools has been a great supplier of PC protection.

I don't think there are any problems with running SD and McAfee, as long as you don't have 2 AV programs running. If the 2 had problems, you will see a lot more of this on the forum. You will get the occasional hiccup here and there depending on the particular PC, which I think is rare. The only way to tell if it works for you is to try it. You can always go into safemode and remove if theres any particular problem.

If you do decide to uninstall McAfee, its a good idea to run the uninstaller tool as well to remove all traces as this can sometimes lead to other problems down the track with other security software as have seen in the past.

Should be fine running both, although when I was running AVG and SD/AV (before I switched to Avast), SD kept detecting and removing AVG's virus signatures.
