I updated spyware doctor with antivirus to the latest version this weekend, and now my computer is randomly rebooting. I am in the middle of something when all of a sudden I hear a small tick, the screen goes black (looks as if power is turned off) and the system reboots. If I was running mozilla seamonkey it says it crashed, and I've had checkdisk come up on the reboot wanting to scan disk C (this is what Windows calls the system disk - the system boots from it, but windows itself is on drive E), but otherwise it's difficult to know anything happened.
Most info I've found regarding this on the web suggests it's a hardware problem, but I've now shut spywaredoctor down and so far, it seems the problem has gone away. (of course now I have a different problem).
I have opened a ticket with PC Tools but so far no reaction. I am a registered user and I am really annoyed at this lack of support. Anyone here have a helpful suggestion?
Thanks in advance. It's a real pain.

You can have a myriad of issues.

Download the Microsoft memory checker program, see if your memory is OK.

Boot to recovery console with your Windows CD. Run chkdsk.

Do a systematic cleanup. You need to use multiple tools and this will take a lot of scan time.

Clean Restore Points
Manually create a new restore point
\Windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

Run Disk Cleanup
\windows\system32\cleanmgr.exe
and choose options , delete all but the current restore point.

Download, install and run CCleaner with Cleaner and Registry options.

If you have Spyware Doctor, perform an update and full scan. Temporarily disable it.

If you have an Antivirus program, perform an update and full scan. Temporarily disable it.

Download, install and update and scan Avira free edition antivirus.

Download, install and update and full scan Superantispyware.

Download, install and update and full scan Malwarebytes Antimalware.

Uninstall or disable the real time protection of Superantispyware (it has real time protection that may conflict with SD).

Uninstall or disable real time protection of Avira (you never want more than one AV program running).

Malwarebytes is OK to leave as is.

Enable Spyware Doctor and your antivirus program.

Re-boot.

If this does not clean up your system, then you have some really bad malware and it will take a lot more time to research and find out what it is.

When you are all done, you should have only Spyware Doctor and the Antivirus of your choice in the Information Tray.
