View Full Version : Long boot up time since installed SD?

Can SD have changed my boot up time? Normally I "lock" the pc and only do a reboot when there is a good reason.

I installed SD and Registry Mechanic last week and have noticed my reboot times are extremely long now and I don't know if this was the case before I downloaded and installed PC tools software.

On bootup there is a "lightbar" on a black screen that also says "Microsoft". This lightbar scrolls left to right and it used to take about 5 scrolls to boot up now it takes 43 scrolls.

Any ideas?

am running Vista x64

Also, while I asking questions, is there a way to turn off the automatic intelliguard scan on bootup? If I don't click "no" in time it does it automatically. I saw another poster ask this question but did not see an answer.

Hi Mikemc26m,

What other programs/apps do you have starting up with SD during Windows startup?

The intelli-scan is a known issue for 64 bit OS and we will be resolving this.

Hi AChen,

Re Intelliscan, I ran Process Monitor and then ran an Intelliscan and noted that long registry key values (longer than 200 characters I think) produce buffer overflow errors in the associated PCTools SD modules. This might be something to look into if buffer overflows aren't being properly handled.

In defense of SD I am not sure how long it took immediately before I installed SD. All I know is it's now 43 scrolls when it used to be 5 and it only recently became that long. I do have a few other apps starting but not sure what they are off hand. I'll take a look when I get home.

I have come to the conclusion that my best action is to re load Vista. This is time consuming but it gives me a good reason to clean out the pc, hardware and software. I have other issues as well so a clean sweep will take care of everything at once. During re-installation of software I can reboot everytime and monitor the performance.

I am a fan of SD and will try it again in the future but I think it may have been released a little too soon for Vista x64. (read my other threads)

No hard feelings for me but my one regret is that I never followed through with testing the x64 version.
