I updated to v6.0.1.440 which has resolved the issues of the TDI driver memory utilisation issue however I cannot get out of a reboot cycle. After installing the update SD prompted to reboot the machine to complete the istallation which I did. After rebooting and logging on again I was again prompted to reboot and so it continues.... I must have rebooted 10 times at least but it seems to be stuck in a loop. Any suggestions for a quick fix?

What is your OS and CPU?
Does it do this in safe mode too?
If the PC stays up in safe mode, run the SD full scan. I would also run a scan with Avira (do not enable the onguard protection)and Malwarebytes.
I would also run chkdsk from the recovery console.

Could you provide the file name that Smart Update is trying to update? It seems like another application is removing the file that SU is trying to download. Try Haapy's suggestion and run SD in safemode with networking and try updating SD and then running in normal mode.

I'll try running in Safe Mode. I can't see that SD is actually updating any file - I reboot, Windows hits the desktop and as soon as SD appears in the System Tray I'm greeted -with a large red reboot box.

Ran it in Safe Mode with Network Support and just got the reboot message as soon as Windows hit the desktop. Rebooted and got the Smartupdate reboot prompt again. Running Windows XP AMD Athlon 64 x2.

Hi Chippo and Tigertheboo,
Could you try going into MyAccount and temporarily switch off Behavior Guard, Site Guard and Email Guard-> Reboot and see if you are still receiving the reboot notices?

Remember how I mentioned that Acronis True Image is installed on my machine and that SD 440 would cause XP to hang as soon as the Desktop tried to display after the bootup screen? The log file showed that the last thing to load successfully was the graphics card driver. I wonder if SD is throwing in a system hook at the same time as the graphics driver loads? Anyway, this XP64 situation sounds similar, so this is why I am bringing this up.
You know me. I am probably on a wild goose chase.
hi i seem to be having the same problem.
I got the popup saying there was a new SD version. i clicked to download it but when installation came it got stuck on "deactivating spyware doctor" and timed out. after half an hour i closed the process in task manager and went to remove SD from safe mode.
In safe mode the same happened. when attempting to uninstall i got the "deactivating SD" message again and it hung. problem is, SD wasnt running in safe mode and no SD related processes were.
Out of spite i simply deleted the folder in safe mode and ran a registry clean to remove traces of it. i loaded back in normal mode and reinstalled SD on another drive. all seemed well until after the reboot i get this red error saying REBOOT NECESSARY. it comes up as soon as i get into my desktop. All my smart updates are complete, i dont run any other security software than SD+A. if i try to run a smart update again i get the same error that comes up above so my screen gets filled with REBOOT messages.
of course rebooting doesnt help.
windows XP on a 3.2ghz core2 with 2gigs of ram.
help please:)
edit: i have tried disabling intelligard services like behaviorguard, email guard and site guard and no dice, still get reboot messages

Could you try disabling EG, SG and BG from MyAccount (http://www.pctools.com/forum/showthread.php?t=48180)-> Perform a Smart update and see if this helps. We need to pinpoint the problem as we have been unable to recreate this problem inhouse.
If the above works, could you try enabling the Addon's one at a time (perform a Smart Update) to see which one is causing the problem. Enable Email Guard first-> Smart Update, then Behavior Guard-> Smart Update and then Site Guard last-> Smart update.
thanks for the reply achen,
i have done as you have said and disabled everything from the my account.
after a clean reinstall, i was able to get 1 scan done but as soon as i tried to run the updates i had an error and the reboot message again , and now it shows up as soon as the program starts. I was able to download the file though but it keeps happening. my version was in french at the moment but the file it tried to download was called something like "software update" and was about 2mb in size.
and also i am still unable to uninstall SD from the installer program, it keeps freezing. All i can do is delete the folder and run a reg clean. is there any tool that you have that can completely remove any traces of SD from my pc so i can have a real fresh install?
thanks :)
