I tried to reinstall my Spyware Doctor and am getting the following error message.
"Error while unpacking program, code C. Please report to author"
Any suggestions how to remedy this.

I dunno. The error message kind of suggests a corrupted download perhaps?

Make sure that SD is uninstalled, delete \program files\Spyware doctor if it exists, delete all your temp files with a program like CCleaner, run a registry clean program like Registry Mechanic, make sure that you download from www.PCTools.com, not some 3rd party site and try it again.

Hi Haapy
Have tried what you suggested and also downloaded the .exe file from PC Tools website.
Still getting the same error message.

OK this could be anything from a hard disk error to a virus.
First we need to know what anti-virus, snti-spyware, firewall software you have.
Then we start process of elimination. Run a hard disk error check on your C:.
Then I suggest that you do a systematic cleanup. You need to use multiple tools and this will take a lot of scan time.
Clean Restore Points
Manually create a new restore point
\Windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe
Run Disk Cleanup
\windows\system32\cleanmgr.exe
and choose options , delete all but the current restore point.
Download, install and run CCleaner with Cleaner and Registry options.
Perform an update and full scan with what ever anti-virus and anti-spyware is still running, then temporarily disable them.
Download, install and update and scan Avira free edition antivirus.
Download, install and update and full scan Superantispyware.
Download, install and update and full scan Malwarebytes Antimalware.
Uninstall or disable the real time protection of Superantispyware (it has real time protection that may conflict with SD).
Uninstall or disable real time protection of Avira (you never want more than one AV program running).
Malwarebytes is OK to leave as is.
Enable you anti-virus and anti-spyware programs.
Re-boot.
If you are unable to install any of the above products or if this does not clean up your system, then you have some really bad malware and it will take a lot more time to research and find out what it is.

Hi Haapy
I discovered the problem was caused by CA Security Centre Firewall setting. Have changed the settings in the Firewall Safeguard, the program re-installed fine. :)

Great. Glad you did not have malware.
