Hi
Just updated to 6.0.0.18
Any imprvements worth mentioning?
After the 1.5MB program update and reboot, what seemed like the full AV database (22MB) was then downloaded.
Is this normal?
I missed the prompt after the program update reboot and only clicked 'Smart Update' out of curiosity because it had been 4 days since a database update. If I had not done this, the scheduler would not have checked again for another day. Is the full database replacement critical?

Hi Pete,
This new version includes 1 minor bug fix so probably not worth mentioning ;)
1 & 2 is a yes for both. The update was 2 megs, however, in the next few days, there will be a reduction then back to the normal smaller updates.

Tried 6.0.0.17 but noticed a slowdown on my old P3-1000.
I'm back with Avast for the moment.
Anyone else experienced a slowdown?
Is 6.0.0.18 better ?

6.0.0.17 & 6.0.0.18 seem to be have about 25% greater impact on system response compared to 5.0.1.1. I tested on an AMD K8 2800+ with 496MB RAM. On a slower PC it is probably more noticeable.

Thanks for the info.
I'm staying away of PCTAV unless there's some improvements in that field then.

While on the subject, it amuses me when people simply compare the RAM footprint of an AV's resident (e.g. PCTAVSvc.exe vs AshServ.eve) as if it is directly proportionally related to system impact.

Did we do that?
I thought we were talking of the performance impact only.

No you/we didn't. :)
Your assessment on your PIII 1GHZ is that Avast has less impact than PCTAV.
Yet were someone else to simply compare the typical figures in the attached images, without experience, they might be led to the opposite conclusion.
