I am unable to back up my firefox bookmarks. On the firefox help pages i found the following
Problems limited to bookmarks
Using PC Tools Spyware Doctor is reported to cause this type of bookmark damage so you should contact PC Tools support for a solution or else stop using the software. [12] [13] [14]
Any information or guidance would be appreciated
(added later: spend a bunch of time on firefox help pages and found a work around that sort of makes sense and actually works but somehow sd is harming the bookmark file or at least harmed the file (problem has been on my system long before 440 update but I hadn't made a backup. problem also manifests itself through inability to erase some but not all bookmarks)
error: you can backup you can't export, sorry

Hi Tigertheboo,
We tested the following scenario and could not reproduce the problem:
Installed FF 3.0.7
Install SDA + All plugins
Added 10 bookmarks to various sites
Tested bookmarks are working
Backup bookmarks to file
Cleared all existing bookmarks
Restored bookmarks from backup
Checked restored bookmarks
All working
What version of FireFox do you have installed?
What happens when you try to back up the bookmarks?

I have firefox 3.07
For quite some time firefox has shown a partial web site that I couldn't delete. Left it there since everything else worked.
Was trying to export bookmarks in case I download ie8 so ie8 could import them.
The export bookmarks failed.
Web search on mozilla zine said such problems occur and as I quoted sometimes the distortion of bookmarks is caused by SD (that's what I posted from them)
First order repair of reboot didn't do anything.
Second work around was to backup firefox's profile stuff and then restore the backup (doing so overwrites bookmarks). I did this and the shadow web site disappeared and I was able to export bookmarks.
That work around seemed to be enough.
I believe problem occurred with one airline site that bothered SD. If you want to try to duplicate what originally caused the problem I was access american airlines site but at that time at 386 up.
thanks for looking into the matter

I have unwanted bookmarks popping up on my bookmark toolbars. And the bookmarks I want on my toolbar are not staying there, but being replaced by random bookmarks. Also, I cannot delete bookmarks.
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Locked_or_damaged_places.sqlite
Problems limited to bookmarks
If the Places database damage seems to be limited to bookmarks, for example, if certain bookmarks cannot be deleted, moved, or edited [10], try creating a new bookmark backup file in Firefox ("Bookmarks -> Organize Bookmarks -> Import and Backup -> Backup") and then restore the new backup as an alternative to rebuilding the Places database. This may work in Firefox 3.0.5 or above, since the bookmark backup process now bypasses certain invalid places.sqlite entries that may exist. [11] and has the advantage of preserving your browsing history. Using PC Tools Spyware Doctor is reported to cause this type of bookmark damage so you should contact PC Tools support for a solution or else stop using the software. [12] [13] [14]

I just did some digging around and found out that SD did have an issue with FireFox in a previous build, however, this issue has since been fixed, some time in December.
If you have this problem, you will need to do the following in order to resolve the issue:
Download SQLite Manager from: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/5817
Edit places.sqlite
Click on moz_bookmarks
Locate the website in the title column
Right click and Delete Selected
Installing the latest build will no longer cause this issue.
Second work around was to backup firefox's profile stuff and then restore the backup (doing so overwrites bookmarks). I did this and the shadow web site disappeared and I was able to export bookmarks.
That work around seemed to be enough.
thank you so much "tigertheboo" for this second work around, it works for me, i can now export my bookmarks.
