hi All,

so apart form the occasional CPU hogging, im now getting a new and intresting problem:

EVERYTIME iantivirus chceckes for an update (every day) it says

"there is a new version, 1.35, would you like to update?"

I say YES! (just like the man from Delmonte), so it downloads the update, begins installing, requires my password, finishes installing and starts up again!

So where is the problem i hear you say? Well, then, when i click "check for updates" to force the error it says

"Hi! There is a new version, 1.35, would you like to update?"

So i say YES! (like the man from Delmonte again)...

Anyone seeing the pattern? Deja Vu? Thats right, every time it checks for new version it finds one, 1.35, which it then installs, and then checks, then finds 1.35...which it installs....checks.....finds 1.35... :D

I suspect my iAntivirus is developing a memory or personality disorder :-)

anyone else getting this? any ideas?

regards,

Defunct

This is strange - we aren't seeing this behavior in the office or lab & haven't had any reports of it apart from you.
Please try:
1. Uninstall iAntiVirus (Applications -> iAntiVirus -> Uninstall iAntiVirus)
2. Reboot
3. Download from http://iantivirus.com/download/ and install.
4. Run Smart Update
5. Let me know if the problem went away!

Thanks

I've noticed this. I've had an update to install on-and-off for the last 3 or 4 days. Just thought you were busy working on updates, until I read this and took a look at the version - 1.34. I know I've downloaded 1.35 a few times, and installed it. But I don't reboot my Mac very often - does it need a reboot to take effect? I guess tomorrow it'll download and install it again...

hi, ok so after uninstalling and reinstalling it appears everything is now happy.

However during uninstall, i went through some extra steps before the restart and that was hunting down and deleting all pref files com.pctools.XX

During this, i found out i havd 2 preference files for Smart Update -

1. com.pctools.smartupdate
2. com.pctools.smart update

Would the space in the second preference file name not obstruct its use? maybe the problem is there - mac users: anyone else have two pref files for smart update in:

~/Library/Preferences

??

Regards and thanks for the help :D

I did the above and now it shows as up to date on the smart update, but when you click on show iantivirus its shows as version out of date. On the about iantivirus it shows ans 1.35. With the new news that the Macs are just as vulnerable as windows I would like to make sure this works correctly.

Hi cnw4003,

I also had the same experience you are now having. It is now corrected. I uninstalled the program, then followed DefUnct's suggestion to delete the preferences (had the same two), reboot, download, install, update, and it is good as new. It seems there should be only (1) com.pctools.smartupdate. Hope this will help you. :)

That is all fine and dandy if you know where to look, I don't. I have two Macs and they will be the last, they are more trouble even than my vista machine.

Can't you do a file search (file find) for the 2 files?

I had the same problem also. I followed the information that Defunct gave and uninstalled and re-installed. I too had both the 2 files mentioned.
All seems OK now but in the Status & Summary panel I have -

Version is current (before the re-install it said 'out of date')
Product Version - 1.0.0.10
Database Version - 2.0.18

What I would like to know is, is this correct?? Nowhere can I see any reference to having version 1.35.

Thanks for any help.

That is the same thing mine shows, but on the show iantivirus screen it shows as out of date version, but it you click on about iantivirus it shows 1.35. I am still looking for the telephone support number I am supposed to have because I have the paid version. I don't think I will renew when its time.

I had the same issue, and tried to register on this site several days ago to report it (verification email just came in a few hours ago, to let me post).

To solve the issue, I just downloaded the full version manually, instead of using the SmartUpdate, and installed 1.35 over 1.34. Previously, a smartupdate of 1.34 would say "successfully upgraded" when installing 1.35, but if you checked the "About", the version number was still stuck at 1.34.
