Hello

i'm asking this on behalf of my colleague.

He has this program ( as above) on his desktop. However it seems that the windows advisory (windoes defender) states its as being off. Clicking to activate it does not seem to do anything. However we've noticed that the program is running in the background, evident from the icon in the taskbar.

He is running Vista Home Premium.

Is this a cause for concern? Please advise.

Regards.

What I understand is that your colleague is running Spyware Doctor with Antivirus and that it shows Windows Defender running as well.

While not a real problem, it can be a preformance problem. I suggest that you disable Windows Defender.

Here is how to do it.

Hi,

Could you also make sure your friend has the latest version of Spyware Doctor installed. For more info, check out http://www.pctools.com/forum/showthread.php?t=56223.

Thanks for your replies.

However i need furthur clarifications.

@Haapy: does it mean that i do not have to do anything about the problem? Can i be sure that the program is running, and the advice the Windows Advisory is false? How do i, if there's any way, certify it's running? Via the icon in the taskbar?

@AChen: Yes. I've checked and it its running the latest updates.

@jamesbraken: Do you mean i switch to other programs?
I do not think it's apt to discuss this in PCtools forums.

I have restarted the particular computer and the notification message still persists.

Regards.

I still recommend not running Windows Defender. It could cause performance issues and other conflicts.

If you open Spyware Doctor, the Status Page System Status should state Normal with all green checkmarks. In addition, click Intelliguard. All the guards should be in color, not grayed out.

I agree. However, Malwarebytes can be used as a backup strandalone scanner. Superantispyware can as well, but you must be sure to disable the active online components so as not to cause conflict with SD.

If this persists, please disable Windows Defender, uninstall and re-install Spyware Doctor with Antivirus.

Regards.

Let us know. Thanks.

Your anti virus and spyware tools are conflicting so, disable or use two of them then it might not make any problem.
