I am unable to send or receive e-mail through Outlook 2003. I am running Spyware Doctor with AntiVirus. Errors include timeout connecting with POP server and other unable to connect errors. I can telnet to my mail server (on Port 110) so I know the mail server is working and that I can connect via my network.

I think this problem started after I ran a registry repair program (UniBlue). I have since purchase and run PC Tools Registry Mechanic.

Thanks in advance for any insight you share.

Some basics.

Unplug the power cable from your cable modem. Wait 30 seconds. Plug it back in.

Do start run cmd. Type ipconfig /release. Then type ipconfig /renew

If no connectivity, disable Spyware Doctor.

Download Winlspxpfix, run it.

Re enable Spyware Doctor.

See if all is good.

Thank you, Haapy, for your help.

Still, no joy. I recycled my DSL modem, ran ipconfig /release, then ipconfig /renew and MS-Outlook still failed to connect.

Then I disabled SD and ran LSPFix.exe (in naive mode, not "I know what I am doing"). LSPFix report 0 repairs in 4 categories. I re-enabled SD and MS-Outlook continues to fail.

I am able to access the internet for web, telnet, ftp, etc. Only MS-Outlook fails.

OK.

First, verify that your e-mail account settings are correct with regards to your POP and SMTP settings.

Second, do a file search on your PC for SCANPST.exe.

This is an Outlook PST repair tool. Run it on your Outlook PST file.

You may have to do a filesearch for *.pst if you do not know where your live PST file is.

I checked the POP and SMTP settings and they have not changed since these accounts worked. I also ran SCANPST which did find and repair some errors. I also set these e-mail accounts up on another computer and they work.

Something happened to this system that was causing it to run REAL slow. I bought and ran a Registry repair tool from UniBlue and then later bought and ran PC Tool's Registry mechanic. MS-Outlook failed after I ran the first (UniBlue) registry tool.

Thanks again, Haapy, for all your help!

Here is what occured prior to MS-Outlook connecting again:

1. I ran netsh winsock reset; then rebooted for changes to take affect.
2. After reboot, SD reported that I need to reboot for Smart Updates to take affect. I rebooted.
3. I was standing on my left foot and my tongue was resting on the right side of my mouth.

Hard to say which event solved the problem, but I am grateful to be past this.

Almost for certain it was the winsock reset.

I am surprised the the LSPFix tool didn't do it.

Well, I learned something here too. Good job.
