I am using XP Pro SP3 on 3 different computers. This one is ok as I can run ThreatFire, PCT Firewall, and PCTAV. 2nd computer can run ThreatFire and Firewall, but not AV without a crash during boot.. HP Laptop (dv5210us) will not run any PCT software without crash during boot. The cause is the PCTcore.sys driver. It is causing a crash during boot sequence and not right at the start, but further in to the sequence. On the laptop, after I uninstalled all PCT software, I put Avira's AntiVir on it and it booted just fine. Also, Laptop will not crash in safe mode which is how I was able to uninstall it all. So what is up with the PCTcore.sys driver that is causes XP to crash during boot? I would venture a guess the driver is causing it to crash when it loads. Any ideas, or am I stuck without being able to use the software at all. Also, thank goodness I tried the free software first. I'd hate to pay for something that would not work. Be well. :)

Hi Moonlynx,
We are currently checking this out. Is it possible to attach the minidump file? (located in c:\Windows\Minidump\)

I probably can. I'll have to get on here via the laptop and post the minidump. Hang here for a bit if you please, and I'll get it loaded. :-)

I have a work laptop, with Windows Vista Premium and I keep getting a BSOD while Windows Vista is trying to load, the reason: PCTCore.sys file, from PCTools Antivirus + TF...
I cannot log in to Windows, so I can't uninstall the PCTools software and I need to get this laptop running ASAP, because I have work tools there, that I cannot access !
This situation is very annoying, because when someone installs this kind of software, it is to protect and keep from having troubles, not create them !
Please help ! This situation is urgent...
Thanks.
Best Regards
Tecno

Try booting from your windows cd to recovery console and remove the offending file from there.
