Hello,
I got infected by a spyware/addware like a week ago.
I believe I got it by using Internet explorer. I made a mistake by clicking one of my spam email and what the link did was to address me to a porn site that had many popups and all that crap.
Nowdays what I see everytime I open My PC or explorer.exe the text headers are: "Huge" as for "Hard drive disks"; "...a website" as for "External Hard drives"; and "Unspecified" as for "Others"

I've tried googling this, but I ran out of ideas for such search.

By header titles I meant those texts that have blue lines under the text...

I've tried fixing it by using Lavasoft Ad-ware, Registry Booster, booting in safe-mode and still with the same issue.

Any ideas of how I can restore those texts / searching keywords would be hepful for my sucky english :(

Oh by the way I'm currently using XP Professional.

Thanks,

haapy

Open My Computer, right click on the device, click Rename and rename it.

Somebody needs to create a REG file which will restore the default values for explorer names, drive icons and such. That would be handy.

Hello thanks for your response,
I wish it was easy as that, but that process cannot be made by right clicking..

I added a screenshot

Is it possible to do? to restore such headers or I dont have any option other than formatting?
The bug/virus did not fire my anti-virus (Kaspersky) what makes this thing really weird in my opinion. The IE(version 6) crashes sometimes nowdays, but it doesnt really matter, I'm using Firefox now.

Any ideas are apreciated!

I have never seen this one before. I can do some research for you, but it will be awhile before I can get to it.

This is just a guess on my part, but I think that perhaps explorer.exe got compromised.

My version is 6.0.2900.5512 dated 8/4/2004 .98MB

You might try copying a good version from another computer or do a search on your PC to see if you have another copy in i386 or someplace else.

I came across a similar issue on a friend's computer. Windows explorer was frequently showing the file name's file type in place of the file size in the file size column. The free version of MalwareBytes's Anti-Malware quickly found the problem and fixed it. So, its worth a shot to see if it can quickly fix this similar issue.
