Hi Michael,
Could you try uninstalling and reinstalling PCTAV? and if the problem is still occuring could you also try running PCTAV in safemode? Just want to see if there is something blocking or disabling Memory Guard.

many thanks.
have both PCTAV and ThreatFire installed; any chance these two are in "conflict"?

There should be no problems with PCTAV and TF installed. I have the 2 programs running and its playing nicely together :)
Could you go into safemode and see if Memory Guard switches itself off? and could you try uninstalling and reinstalling PCTAV in safemode to see if this helps.

after two false starts, yr advice to uninstall & re-install has worked.
Memory Guard is now steady.
Having to update 17.23mb of data caused some problems: persevered & after SIX attempts finally managed full update.
Many thanks for yr patience & advice.
Having been the victim of identity theft twice last summer, I have been somewhat cautious about anything that smelt of trouble.

took advantage of yr advice to un-install & re-install PCTAV to download latest version, 6 I think it is.
daily update now seems to involve 2+MB instead of old 200+KB.
It rarely completes download 1st go: offers "error downloading some or all items: try again later".
If I abandon any other work during downloads, this usually does the trick.
Is this really necessary?
I've always been told that my Sony VAIO could do 5 or 6 "jobs" at once.
I cannot have "proper" broadband in my remote part of East Anglia & use Vodafone's Mobile Connect instead.

To check the version, you can simply click on Help/About and it will display the version or you can check the Status screen which shows Product Version.
For the database increase, check out http://www.pctools.com/forum/showthread.php?t=56304.
This definitely sounds like a connection problem with the server maybe down to your mobile connection.
