Hi All,

Due to the popularity of the User Contributed Language Pack (http://www.pctools.com/forum/showthread.php?t=50943) thread, we are now looking at ways to officially support this activity. Codenamed "PC Tools Together" we are planning on launching a completely web based application that is integrated with pctools.com that supports community creation of Language Packs.

We want you to be involved in shaping this initiative so we are looking for volunteers for the BETA program.

You don't need to speak a second language to participate (although we definately want to hear from you if you do!)

The BETA program will focus initially on ThreatFire and participation will include feedback on features, design and usability of the application and participants will get the first look at each version.

My name, by the way, is Jason and as the Product Manager for PC Tools Together will be working very closely with Becky and Daniel.

Looking very forward to everyones feedback and questions

Hello,

my wish is to translate Threatfire and possibly also other PC Tools apps into the Czech language. I would like to participate in the initiative, as far as it will lead to a high-quality localization.

Thanks saad - Arabic poses some unique issues due to the character set and the fact it is right to left (more so in the software than in a translation application).

Your feedback and participation will be extremely helpful to test some of the solutions as well as contributing towards an Arabic ThreatFire product.

That's great, RavenMacDaddy!

We actually have a number of ThreatFire users in Sweden so your input and assistance will be very valuable!

Raven,

I echo Becky's enthusiasm....It will be great to have your feedback.

We are expecting to have something for you to give feedback on (Most likely some basic screenshots and roughed out process) in less than 2 weeks time!

Thanks again to all so far and looking forward to more participants.

My location is Malaysia, my origin is Norway. Might be of assistance with the Norwegian language, but unfortunately I use US key board and lack some of the Norwegian letters.

Thanks mjq. Although the first application of this will be translation based, we will be looking at other possibilities so having Beta testers that don't speak an additional language other than English will be welcomed!

Reodor - We are looking at incorporating virtual keyboards so we will be interested in the concept of translators using an English keyboard yet being able to translate and will look forward to your feedback in the very near future.

Thanks again to all that have shown interest so far!

Raven - Yup, you are on the Beta participants list. It will start off slow and gain speed as we get closer to May.

I am definately keeping track of everyone that was already so kind to post in this thread offering their contribution and will let participants know once I have something for them to get involved in.

Cheers,

Hi

Where can I find an English Language Pack

Saad,

With the interface we are planning, you won't need the English language pack (There isn't one actually as the strings are embedded).

I will be posting our proposed process with some mocked up screenshots in a new thread tomorrow.

Looking forward to your feedback!

Can ThreatFire please have Chinese language pack.

Can ThreatFire please have Chinese language pack.

Khim - Simplified Chinese was made available through the normal channels through the last update. Were you interested in Traditional Chinese instead?

Let me know if you don't see the choice in your control panel once you update to the latest version.

I do not mind translating all program text/buttons/etc with explanatory into Dutch as long as I have an idea how much work is involved. Any idea aboy the total number of words to translate?

Regards Kees

ThreatFire is approx 6,000 words although one of the reasons for this initiative is to develop a way for multiple users to translate pieces of the UI at their convenience, working towards a completely translated language.

Even if you only wanted to translate a few hundred here and there, I would still love to have your contribution and feedback on the application.

Thanks

Have you tried dictionary.com to assist in this effort? It has a decent language translation engine.

It could be a start and then a volunteer language specialist could edit it. Might save some time.

Hi there,
I could provide translation in Greek, if desired. I use ThreatFire for more than six months and I am very satisfied with it, so I decided to reciprocate. Gimme a buzz if interested. :)

Happy,

Great suggestion. We are actually playing with the idea of using machine translation to get the ball rolling although we are testing it to make sure it does indeed save time. (Ensuring quality is high enough that the translator doesn't have to start from scratch due to incorrect terminology and sentence structure.)

Thanks for the feedback!

Khim -

It could definitely be a candidate for Community Translation. Would you be interested in participating in the pilot to see that happen?

Thanks

Win7 - We already officially release German so it won't be a candidate (There are 7 languages which are laready available) but would you be willing to help out with some non-translation work like reviewing language packs to make sure that the lines of text display correctly etc?

If not, we would love to even have your opinion on the translation interface as we have more to show.

Thank you for your interest!

:)

Sang -

I've added Vietnamese and PM'd you with the info to access PC Tools Together.

Once logged in just do the following:

1.) Go to your profile and add/remove languages - Add Vietnamese if its nto already checked

2.) Go to Home (My PC Tools Together) and go to Add/Remove Projects in the upper right. Add ThreatFire if you haven't already.

You should now see the project in your My PC Tools Together screen (Home when logged in) and can hit the Translate button to get started.

Thanks!
