vista program files x86

[diablo1]

on vista 64 operating system i have two program files
program files
program files(x86)

is program files (x86) for installing older programs that only run on xp .. do i install older programs into the program 86 folder

not sure why it has two program files and what its for?

The program files(x86) is for installing 32 bit programs. The normal program files folder is for installing 64 bit programs
