Hi:

I tried out PCTools Disk Suite on my Vista system but had problems with it's not doing dskchk correctly and getting in the way of Microsoft's dskchk at startup.

So I deleted PCTools via the Control Panel 'Programs and Features'. Unfortunately, at every system restart I get the message that 'C:\program~\pctools~\adsbatch.exe is not found' (and the same for my backup drive, D: ) and I still can't run Windows dskchk because I'm told the disk is being used by another program (obviously, PCTools's adsbatch.)

How do I prevent the system from trying to use this adsbatch at startup and how do I release my drives from all references to PCTools and finally elimanate all residues of PCTools from the compuer?

(In the directory C:\program files\PCTools Disk Suite only one entry remains: update.exe. Control Panel no longer shows PCTools as a 'removable' service option, so I can't repeat the uninstall through Windows. Revo Uninstaller also shows no entry for PC Tools that I can 'power-uninstall')

Thank you.

John F.

Hi Johnof,

It appears that you have added one of Repair module tasks for boot time and have uninstall DS before this task actually executed (for example Users can select Repair Disk task for system volume, then DS has proposed to add this task for boot time and after this, the User has uninstalled DS from PC, so entry about scheduled task remains in Registry).
The Devs will check for such situations in upcoming releases to avoid such situations.

As a workaround, please follow the instructions below to bypass the described situation:
Use DS to remove the useless entries from Registry used at boot time: Install DS-> then add scheduled Check Disk task for boot time-> then remove this task from scheduler-> Uninstall DS.

Thank you for your reply.

Actually, the reason I decided not to continue with PCTools was that the diskcheck simply didn't work and then got in the way of Microsoft's chckdsk, so I could no longer optimize my hard-drive...

Anyway, I'm not sure how to re-install DS. I'd really appreciate step-by-step instructions re; where to find it and how to do it.

Thank you very much.

John Fowler.

I assume that you have un-installed Disk Suite.

Here is the URL to download and re-install.
