Hi haapy,

Just confirming to see if the error appeared exactly as you were trying to install it? or when you tried to run an update?
Also did you try to install this on IE? or FF?

Got the error trying to install it. Running IE7.

I have a funny feeling that it may have something to do with XP MediaCenter.

I have loaded many BD without error and I know that this is a clean machine.

Here are some more details.

The problem installing Browser Defender was not just with one file it was with many.

What I did was to just keep hitting "Retry" and the install kept walking through all the files to completion. And, in fact Browser Defender did finally install and work.

So, could this be a permissions issue? I was going to reset the permissions per Microsoft's procedure, but thought I would check in here first.

Additionally, on another PC running XP Pro I had the same file retry issue tryng to install Malware Bytes Anti-malware. I kept hitting the Retry and it did install.

Both PCs are configured with Spyware Doctor with Antivirus and Threatfire Free.

I had this today when I installed a fresh download of BD for IE7. I first got a warning to close IE7...which I did...only to be greated with the same messages as you described. BD did install after several 'Retry' clicks.

I then uninstalled BD and...having made sure IE7 was also closed...then re-installed it and the install process was flawless.

I think that if IE7 has not closed...or indeed was closing but the BD DLLs were still in memory waiting to be unloaded...then the BD installation process thinks the old DLLs are still there and asks you to Ignore, Retry or Cancel.

Unfortunately, installing BD either way still does not overcome my 'broken threat icon'.

Regards

Chris

I wonder if it was due to an SD db update, not a BD issue since I had it with a Malwarebytes install too. In both cases I had IE7 closed. To have it fixed so quickly in your case may be related to a db update.

When I have time I may uninstall/reinstall to test this theory. BTW I answered your Java question of your other post.
