I have experienced issues on multiple PCs with SD/AV after going to a prior System Restore point. After restore SD/AV would not perform a Smart Update.
The solution was to un-install and re-install SD/AV and all was good again.
I assume that there were smart updates that occurred subsequent to the Restore Point that got SD/AV out of sync with itself.

Good thought. I've had the same problem with two other protective programs with the need for the same solution. Also, some bad guy trojans will hide in restore files leading to a very nasty cycle

Good points. After cleaning my computer of malware, I generally try to remember to blow out all of my previous system restore points and then create a new one. And generally later that night when I am ready to go to bed, I will do a full backup of my computer's hard drive. I have a second internal hard drive which is used for backups, and once the backup is done, then I copy the backup to an external USB drive which then gets unplugged after I'm done. That way, no matter what, I have either one or two ways to completely restore my computer.
