Hi, Microsoft Windows Vista keeps reporting that the Disk Suite Service has stopped working and must now close. This pop-up happens several times a day and can be very annoying. I am using version 1.0.0.57 and have added the Disk Suite service exe file to the DEP (Data Execution Prevention) exception list (which overrides the program DEP which shuts down suspicious programs that use a plethora of memory) and still encounter this issue.

Hi Guys,
With the problem you are experiencing with DS shutting down, could you please provide the following info below:
Are you using your Administrator User Level that has full access to Disk Suite?
Do you have the User Account Control set to ON or OFF, can you verify that this is ON and if there is a small Windows Shield icon on Disk Suite desktop icon?
Does this happen in Safe Mode?
To Restart the computer in Safe mode:
*When the computer starts back up, begin immediately by pressing the F8 key repeatedly until the Windows Startup menu appears with various options.
*By using the up and down arrow keys on the keyboard, select 'Safe Mode'.
In the meantime, please do the following as a workaround :
Please add the following Disk Suite process files into your Windows DEP Settings exceptions - switch the selection to '...for all programs and services, except...'. and browse :
-aCheckDisk.exe
-aDSBatch.exe
-aDSProcMngr.exe
-aDSReboot.exe
-aDSStartup.exe
-aDSTray.exe
-DiskSuite.exe
-DSService.exe
-unins000.exe
-Update.exe
To be excluded from Data Execution Prevention.
***Default location is C:\Program Files\PC Tools Disk Suite
To access Data Execution Prevention:
Control Panel > System > Advanced System Settings > System Properties window > Advanced tab > Performance Settings > Performance Options window > Data Execution Prevention tab.

I don't have a clue if the following might possibly be related to the above problem, but after I uninstalled Maxtor MaxBlast from my XP machine, I discovered that the uninstaller deliberately left behind a small monitor program which loads every time at startup. I had to go into the registry and remove the entry. Acronis True Image also installs a similar type of monitoring utility. I always make sure to temporarily disable SD's IntelliScan before I run the True Image program to back up my hard drive since if I don't, then SD seems to lock up the computer since Acronis locks the partition just before backing up the partition.
Again, I don't know if this is related to sciencewis1's Vista issue. Yet I thought it worth mentioning and that sciencewis1 might want to check to see what stuff loads on startup.

Hi sciencewis1,
Can we ask you to send to us any crash dumps generated by DSService crash (in case they are generated at all). So we can analyze the problem more precisely. Maybe you have already posted them through Disk Suite's bug reporter, so let us know how to differentiate yours (provide us with e-mail address from which they are posted).
If you do not have crash dumps, so other thing we can propose is to set "Smart Update action" on Settings/General page to "Do not check for Updates" (as we can see from your post you have crashes not often, that can be dedicated to update checks which also provided once at several hours). If this helps, then let us know about.
Also can you share with us information about security products installed on your PC, which can affect programs execution by providing different system hooks (like Spyware Doctor, ThreatFire, or from other vendors). And either this problem was actual for previous DS versions: 32, 54.
You can answer to us directly to DSReports@pctools.com
Thanks in advance
