I was happily running WindowsME on my Pentium III-733 with an ASUS CUV4X and 128 MB of RAM, when I stupidly decided to install Windows2000. I fdisked, reformated, then stuck in the Windows2000 CD, and installed a fresh Windows2000. Unfortunately during the install I get a message that ACPI is not 100% compatible, press f7 to disable. Of course, at this point, I can't even Ctrl-Alt-Del. I can't get into Windows (even in Safe mode). I'm told to update the BIOS, though that's really hard since I can't get into a command prompt or Windows. I've read that APM has to be on in the BIOS during installation or Win2000 can't work. On the power tab in the BIOS, where is APM setup?

Thanks in advance

The acpi is found in the bios at the very begining of starting the pc normally pressing the delete key gets you into the bios setup but what you need to do is displayed onscreen. When inside look under power management and it might be disabled so just enable save on exit and reboot and re-run setup.
Your a bit stuck if you need to update your bios as you need a working pc with internet access to download the files. Good Luck

win2k does not use apm at all. probably what is going on is your bios has the acpi function turned off and apm enabled. boot to your bios setup screen and make sure acpi is enabled and apm is off...then try again. it should work. the cuvx has a win2k certified bios in it but if yours got a bad flash you will have to reload winme...download your bios..flash it..then load win2k..if you have to flash still make sure acpi is set to on and apm set to off after you flash

You should be able to upgrade your bios without getting to a O/S. Most computers have a bios flasher utility built in the BIOS Chip. You should be able to flash bios by just inserting new bios file in floppy and turning on pc. Once bios reads floppy the flash should begin without any complications. Please verify with the maker of your board to see if they have a bios flash utility integrated ( I know Award does), if your bios chip does have this utility you will only need the new bios file. Hope this helps you out. Good luck!

you need a dos boot disc then download the new bios file (if there is one) to the floopy disc then you can flash the bios. It is very easy to do that, read in asus's site.

good luck.
