This is all based on personal preference and your system setup. This includes what other security software you have installed. Some may play nicely with others while others might cause conflicts. I guess the best way is to try them out and see which one you like. I am currently running PCTIS which includes spyware doctor, pctools antivirus, firewall, spam monitor and behavior guard. Everything is running very nicely.
You might want to check out http://www.pctools.com/forum/showthread.php?t=54493 as it is a similar topic to your question.
I personally use ESET Nod 32 internet security. i love it, it doesn't slow up your system at all and it is customizable or its good right out of the box too. I've used it to fix other peoples computers that we loaded with all sorts of virus' and junk, along with never having got one with it on my computer (althought it has caught and blocked several). I also use PC tools Spyware doctor and registry mechanic, along with CCleaner and deffragler.
