I've only been reading these forums for a short time but I'm already sick of reading repeated advice by people to disable AntiVirus software / other anti-spyware apps just so Spyware Doctor won't stuff up their computers by using up all the resources or causing system issues.

It is CLEAR the problem is with Spyware Doctor, not the other apps! FIX SD! Don't recommend turning perfectly good applications OFF!

In this day and age of multi-blended threats, a working ANTIVIRUS is essential. A working FIREWALL is essential. Telling people to turn these off is completely inappropriate and very bad advice!

I agree... But, I also wonder why no one is saying: "upgrade your hardware!" If one doesn't have the machine capability to support the software programs, they are darn sure going to run into problems.
I have had some issues over the last couple of years with SD, but none as in so many of the posts.

This problem can occur whenever you try to use two or more anti-virus, firewalls, or other malware blocking programs together. Its not that there is any specific problem with one particular program. Instead its that both programs end up fighting to try to do the same types of tasks in order to block threats in real time. Thus its hard to get these types of programs to behave well with each other.

tick do the research.

It is generally recognized that more is not better when it comes to protection. Such is life. Complain about it or make the proper adjustments.

Choose your tools and work with them. If you do not like SD, move on.

Hello Tick

If you don't like and use SD. Then Try Other AntiSpyware Program And There Is No Other AntiSpyware As ProwerFul As SD. I Really Agree With Happy. So if you don't like SD buy other anti-spyware.

Best Regards

My point is Spyware Doctor should do the job without causing problems and it is BAD ADVICE to tell people to disable other, perfectly good, antivirus / firewall software, just so SD doesn't cause issues. It's irresponsible!

tick, you do not seem to understand.

Multiple active malware programs are attempting to protect the same PC resources. As a result they will butt heads. Some protect more resources than others.

It has been documented that because of this you can actually wind up with less protection and operational conflicts.

It has also been recommended that for additional protection you can safely use other standalone malware scanning tools.

If you do not choose to accept this advice, that is your choice, but your constant complaints of SD, Norton, McAfee not working together is not helping other users in this forum.

If you are unhappy about having paid for SD and having it not work with other active anti-malware programs, ask for your money back. I am sure that PC Tools will be glad to oblige.

I understand perfectly well but advising people to turn off their AV / Firewall is just plain wrong.

I never said turn either one off, but do not have two of any of the same protection.

You might find this article helpful, since it written by professionals and not my opinion.

The following is an excerpt.

Conflicts Resolution Document
Anti-Spyware software, as part of its operation, regularly interfaces with parts of a computer's operating system that control specific and low-level pieces of architechture. Multiple pieces of software all attempting to operate on the same low-level controls can cause conflicts. This document is intended to provide voluntary guidelines within the Anti-Spyware industry to assist in avoiding and resolving conflicts between suites of Anti-Spyware software and to better serve consumers.

I've had conflicts with av programs in the past... and guess what? The issues were resolved - and not by disabling a primary av program - but by updated software. If ya got a mess of av programs running at the same time than ya deserve to suffer. But, if you are running a few programs that are targeting different areas, then they should be able to coexist to a reasonable degree.

Tick, I understand your point & agree.
