Nice to see PC Tools AV being steadily improved but the service still crashes too easily when scanning IMAP emails in Thunderbird. Also some messages fail to display when PC Tools certification is enabled. (Old problems I know.)

Also I've noticed that the signature version in the certification:
"No virus found in this incoming message
Checked by PC Tools AntiVirus (5.0.0.22 - 10.100.047)"
is not updated following a "Smart Update" until after the PC is restarted.
Maybe it was always like this, I can't remember.

Hi PC-Pete,

I have escalated this one to the developers to investigate as we have just tested this but could not recreate the problem.

Regarding the second issue, this looks like a bug which I have passed on.

Stability does appear to have improved. The main problem is that once the service has "died", email is still downloadable and the PC continues to operate without any on-access protection.
Having a separate mail scanner service would be one way to enhance protection but at the cost of increased complexity and resource usage.
