I am running a 32 bit Vista that came with my machine from the HP. There wasa one big primary partition and one hiden partition for system recovery.
I tried to resize the primary partition using the PC Tools disc suite. It started to resize after the reboot and gave me an "assertion" error and tried to reboot again. Now the computer is DEAD. It won't reboot even with the system recovery DVD. Please HELP!

A situation similar to this happened to me, but not using PC Tools Disk Suite. It appears the problem is the partition is corrupted and when you tried to resize the larger partition you compromised the hidden back-up partition so your system cannot recover (the back-up CD is useless without the back-up partition, trust me I have done everything you could possibly think of to rectify issues like this). However, the only solution is to send the computer back to the manufacturer for a hard drive re-imaging (wipe your hard drive then return everything to factory settings and programs). Hopefully you have all your data backed-up. If you don't I would suggest looking for a suitable program that reads damaged partitions to recover your files that does not require an operating system which means they have a boot from CD (perhaps Partition Commander) or some file recovery software. Hopefully this helps you!

You say, that U used hiden partition for system recovery. Many partition programs spoil system, when disk contains boot launcher on second partition. Try boot from your Windows installation CD, select recovery console and perform FIXMBR and FIXBOOT operations. There is a small chanse that this can help.

At second, there is a good tip for all, who use partition operations for bootable partitions: U may backup all your data into zip archive, defragment this archive and view and save first and last physical sector of your file to a blank paper. If system failed, at least you can manually recovery your data by Noton Disk Editor or other low level disk programs. But some experinece required.
