Hi!

I just completed an upgrade from Desktop maestro v2 into v3.0.0.830, and after installation & initial first scan running fine, the application window becomes unresponsive and stays like it.

Symptoms:
- ~50% CPU load on Core 2 Intel 2,0 GHz
- Continous disk access, gone past ~4 GB and still reading (not writing) all the time

System:
- MS Vista SP1
- 3 GB RAM
- No viruses, no other misbehaving applications

What's causing this? I've tried uninstalling, re-installing, rebooting ...

Hi
What first scan are you running? Registry or Disk cleanup?

DM reports poor system health, the cleans my temporary files & MRU objects, then does the registry scan & fix. Even if I abort those, when system returns to normal application window, it locks up.

Tried even reinstalling my Vista, and it still keeps on locking up as described.

Tried also:

- running in Safe Mode
- uninstalling in Safe Mode
- re-installing in Safe Mode

Still experiencing the same symptoms, I'm sending the "Belarc Advisor" report to PC Tools support, and any support persons in here by request. There's a bug for you to sort out, people :)

Hi Freeze,

Could you please confirm which feature in Desktop Maestro you were using?

1. Scanning your registry?
2. Clean you computer?
3. Bleaching?

Please also tell me what do you see on your screen when the problem occurs, if you could get a screenshot, that would be very helpful.

DM ran automatically the default steps it runs after installation:

- Smart update (completed ok)
- Scan your registy
- Clean your computer

- These completed ok, found errors and they were fixed ok
- Then, when application returned to it's main window (Home) it froze, but I could still click the application window to bring it in front
- After running for one hour on the background, DM was still busy reading my drive(s)
- After coming from work, DM had read a whopping 18 Gigs from my drives, and it was running ok - the same happened yesterday after waiting for ~10 minutes in Safe mode, eventually

Now, I'll close the DM and restart it ... *wait* ... oh yes, reading my disk again, main application window appeared but it does not respond to mouse clicks - I'll give it a couple of hours :)
--> * Edit * 1.5 hours have gone, 8 Gigs of drive data read - application works again ... until it's restarted :)

Attached image: As you can see in Process Explorer window, CPU is loaded and HDD read access is over 400 Megs already and increasing. Application window is there, but unresponsive until the HDD reading ends.

A strange problem indeed. Could you please confirm when did you start to have this problem? Did it work before?

I have tested everything on my machine, but was unable to recreate the problem.

Could you please send us your Belarc Report.

Please download the Belarc Advisor file from: http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

* After you have run the Advisor tool from Belarc, send us the 'html' report files from following location:

C:\Program Files\Belarc\Advisor\System\tmp\

Please attach the file and send this to my email address (via PM). Do NOT post this on the forum.

Problem started when I installed DM v3. DM v2 was working perfect.

As I said, I even did a clean re-install of MS Vista to get ride of the problem (and to clean the system), but it still persists. I also tried changing Vista DEP settings as instructed by PC Tools support today, but it did not help.

AChen, you have a PM on it's way ...

Hi Freeze,

- can you check which language was selected in your Regional Language
- if you are using other than Eng, can you change to English and try to use DM again
- Also, can you make sure that you have unchecked the compatibility mode
(right click on DM shortcut -> properties -> compatibility tab -> uncheck)

So ... over three months has passed since this issue has been brought up, has PC Tools released any update for Desktop Maestro?

No.

No.

For the error message that you are receiving, could you please check the following details of your system.

Click Start > Settings > Control Panel and open 'Regional Language Options'

Please provide details of what appears here.

Windows Vista
===========

(1) Click on Formats Options tab and note the Language used under "Current Format"

(2) Click on Administrative tab > "Change System Locale" and note the language used under "Language used for Non-Unicode Programs"
If you have selected a language other that English in here, please try and change this to "US English" as this would resolve the problem.

It says "Finnish" because the OS is Finnish, and so am I.

Therefore it is Symantec's problem to get the software running, I #%## dont like having to play around with locale settings in order to get otherwise good application to run.

This is not directed against you, AChen. I appreciate the solution you've found me earlier, English/US English setting makes the program run. What I don't appreciate, is a lag of a simple bugfix from program publisher.

Thanks for getting back. Just wanted to make sure that this is related to the language regional settings. We are planning to resolve this issue within future builds. I understand users are awaiting this fix and this should be available in the coming versions. Please see PM.
