Hi,

Recently I did a scan on my pc and it picked up a virus called backdoor flood, when I read the description it says it can allow a hacker to remotley gain access to my pc. I have done numerous scans but it just keeps removing the virus on each scan.

Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks
Paul

First thing to try.
Start the computer in 'Safe Mode with Networking' (repeatedly press F8 while starting and choose 'Safe Mode with Networking') and run a full scan with PC Tools AV.

Is the threat detected in "system volume information"?
If so, you'll need to turn System Restore off in order to remove it, and all your restore points.

Hi,

What did you scan with? PCTAV or SD+AV?
Do you know the full name of the infection/s? a good idea is to attach the log file from PCTAV or SD+AV to this thread.

Thanks for the reply, all it said was it was a backdoor flood, I can see if it says anymore when I get home later. I will also try doing the scan in safe mode. I ran the scan with spyware doctor and AV.

Hi
There is a known false positive with IRC.Backdoor.Flood in older signatures in Spyware Doctor. Please run a Smart Update and this should resolve your problem.
Hope that helps

Hi Matt,

Thanks for the info.

I had run a smart update before doing the scan on spyware doctor, it does remove it but I must have done about 4 more scans after it, and every time it finds the infection again.

Thanks
Paul

Hi
System Restore (located in "system volume information") is a common place for malware to hide after an infection. Unfortunately these files can only be removed by switching System Restore off, rebooting and then switching System Restore on again.
Hope that helps

This could possibly be the false positive from the other day. Check out this thread for more info - http://www.pctools.com/forum/showthread.php?t=54089&page=2.

Hi Anthony,

Yeah that sounds like what it was, I ran an update last night and since then have done a few scans and it is not picking it up.

Thanks for the assistance.

Much appreciated.
