Vista boots up to the Welcome screen and then I get a black screen for over 45 seconds or more. Anyone know what is hanging up the boot process into Windows?

I run Norton. The problem seemed to get worse after SP1.

thanks

Do you have a lot of start up items? Antivirus and Anti-Spyware Programs like PC Tools SDA (Spyware Doctor with Antivirus) tend to do this. It has occured on my system numerous times. However, it only really occurs after a blue screen or when I have a filthy registry. This is because SD has to start up and look at all this excess items. So remember to use a goood registry cleaner and get rid of all the junk files and your computer should not act in thatmanner any longer. Hopefully this helps.

I have the same exact problem, but mine is even worse! i get the black screen forever. Nothing will happen after it. I have to hit the power off and on to restart the computer and then it will start normally! I have to do this every day 2 or 3 times!!!!!
Any solutions please?

I know, the first time I start-up my computer vista has either a black screen or does not even respond and I have to restart my computer by holding the power-off button. Then at the second boot it works. This is ridiculous, Vista is horrible. This also occurs when I come out of hibernation, Vista just stops responding and I have to forcibly shutdown my computer. Hopefully they fix this in the second service pack (if there is one before Windows 7)!
