Hi,

I did a comparison between iAntiVirus and MacScan threat lists.

So, I found differences. iAntiVirus do not detect:

Blazing Tools Perfect Keylogger
Instant Access Dialer
Invisible Oasis
Key Captor
Key Stroke Recorder
Key Stroke Recorder X
Last Resort
Mac Remote Control
Mac Life Insurance
Monitorer
OSXVNC
Peeping Tom
Poker Stealer
Spector
SuperSave
Take Down Suite
TextMeleon
TextTrap
TypeRecorder
TypeSaver

The question is: why?

In either case, iAntiVirus 1.0 is working fine, very fine. :)

You know, that is a good observation. I suspect this is due to iAntivirus being brand new to Mac security. Other products like MacScan and VirusBarrier are more mature and thus have larger Mac malware data bases.

However, compared to Windows the numbers are so low that everything known should already be included in iAntivirus's definitions. Perhaps in the next update iAntivirus will be all caught up. If this does become the case I cannot imagine a good reason as to why anybody would pay $69 for Intego's VirusBarrier or $29 for MacScan which provides no real-time protection.

Could it also be that iAntivirus has a different name for the same malware in MacScan's list?

Update:

I just took a look at MacScan's threat list and counted only 35 compared to iAntivirus's 85 which means it's likely that iAntivirus already detects everything that MacScan does but calls some of the malware by a different name.
