View Full Version : Mac version hangs

I have been having ongoing problems with the mac version of iAntiVirus hanging.

When the mac is switched on iAntiVirus loads immediately, and it is possible to complete a scan. Once this has been done, iAntivirus continues to run in the background, but when opened again to complete a further scan, the application hangs on the status and summary screen.

The only solution is to force quit. To run iAntiVirus again I have to close down the machine and re-boot. This correction procedure is unfortunate, as that was what so many applications required running on the windows platform (which was the reason I bought a mac!).

Am I the only one having this problem? Is there any possible solution as I don't want to purchase the full product if I can't get this to work correctly.

Hi Sandmarker, thanks for taking the time to report this.
We haven't heard of anyone else experiencing this particular issue.

To help track it down, could you please send us (either as a reply to this or PM to AChen or myself):

- Version of iAntiVirus you are using (beta or beta 2)
- Database version (this is displayed on the main iAntiVirus screen)
- Which model Mac you are using
- Which version of OS X you have installed (e.g 10.5.4)
- Any other security software you have installed/running
- Whether you have any of the applications/plugins listed in this post: http://www.pctools.com/forum/showpost.php?p=188695&postcount=5
- Send any crashreports you may have related to iavd or iAntiVirus (you can find them using Applications -> Utilities -> Console -> CrashReports

Thanks in advance.

Sure thing, here is the information you wanted:

- Version of iAntiVirus you are using (beta or beta 2)
Beta 2
- Database version (this is displayed on the main iAntiVirus screen)
1.0.04
- Which model Mac you are using
iMac purchased December 2008
- Which version of OS X you have installed (e.g 10.5.4)
Latest version: 10.5.5
- Any other security software you have installed/running
Have ClamXav installed and I run this weekly

None of the other applications or plugins listed are installed.

There is nothing related to iavd or iAntiVirus in the crashreporter.

Thanks for investigating this.

Nigel

Thanks for the information, we'll try and recreate the problem on a similar setup and let you know how it goes.

Version Beta 3 just loaded on my Mac and I'm having problems, I get this message

Beta 2 was working fine. Any Ideas? Thanks

Hi Andrew, could you please look for any crashreports related to iavd or iAntiVirus using Utilities -> Console and PM them to me?

Also how large is the archive file it gets stuck on? If it's not too big can you please PM me that as well so I can recreate it here?

In the meantime could you please try these 2 things and let me know how it goes:
1. Disable "Scan inside archives" from the preferences page and do a custom scan of /Desktop/untitled folder
2. Re-enable "Scan inside archives" and set the engine scan mode to "fast" then do another custom scan of /Desktop/untitled folder

Thanks in advance.

I've sent a PM with my crashreport. As for the other questions you've asked.

The archive folder is large, it's 307 MB

I tried both of the things you've asked and they both worked.

If you need anything else form me please ask.

Thank you so much for helping me out. I absolutely loved iAntiVirus beta 2 and I'm sure I'll love beta 3 when it's working again. Thanks again.

Andrew
