I'm currently using NIS 2008 (bloatware) and I want to change to either Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 or Bitdefender Internet Security 2009.
This bloatware I have is crap as I had a virus last year and after doing a full scan, it did not detect it, let alone romove it, execpt for a tracing cookie.- it detects nothing but tracing cookies.

Do any of you recommend one or the other?
I like to continue using ThreatFire but I thing it wont work with theae two programs as they both have a behavior based type module biult in.
Is Threatfire compatible with these two?

I still intend to use SD as it is an excellent antispyware program.

what are the pros and cons of each program???

Thanks in advance

Just a thought.
If you still intend to use SD, before chucking out the "bathwater", have you tried Norton's new NAV or NIS 2009 "baby"?

Personally I'm not a Norton fan but the beta was much better than I expected and it may cost you nothing to upgrade if Symantec work like other companies. (What am I saying?, We know they don't :D)

Bit Defender over the past two years has become almost as bloated as Norton and the support is virtually non-existent. I recently uninstalled (and just like Norton, the uninstall leaves a LOT of crap behind) BitDefender 2008 which still had 265 days on the 3-user license because of MAJOR problems I was having with it interfering with Spyware Doctor and generally slowing my system to a crawl. I now, after quite a bit of research, am using the free home version of AVAST and right after loading it, it found several viruses that BitDefender had not found. The best thing about it is..it works on Outlook, most of the messenger programs, and virtually anything else you might use, AND without slowing the system. No A/V program is perfect, but AVAST has done a great job for me.
Can't speak for Kapersky except when I tried it two years ago, it slowed my system I was using then quite a bit.

I can only speak from my own experience. I have an AT&T Yahoo version of Norton running on my kids PC and it seems O.K.
I have PCTIS 2009 running on mine and have been waiting for the FF3 issue to get resolved. I see there is a new version to try today.

I had BD AV10 for awhile and ran it with Spyware Doctor. Loved the combination. I work for a very small company. My boss just got rid of Symantecs for BitDefender Internet Suite 2009. We had tested the 2008 version and had problems with the firewall mostly. Must say we've had BDIS 2009 running for a few weeks now and it is great. If I were going to choose a different application it would be BitDefender. Must say, my boss gave up symantec mainly because of their lack of support. He found BD support extremely responsive and helpful. They have the 24/7 online chat which he has used. I know personally via email support they did not give up trying to resolve our issues with the 2008 version. Right up until 2009 was released which fixed 99% of the problem. Hey let's face it. You read complaints in all of the forums because people who are not having any problems don't post in forums. I have always praised the support from PC Tools but have heard others say it is deplorable. Someone else here mentioned Norton and BD being bloatware. I believe if you read the spyware doctor forum you will find people calling it bloatware. Just do what works for you. Whatever you decide go with a trial version first. Also, make sure the install is clean without traces of other security applications left behind.
And with BD, the price is right.
Not sure about it's compatibility with Spyware Doctor. I would just choose one application for real time protection if I were you.

Good Luck.

I've recently installed BitDefender IS 2009. Spyware Doctor and BitDefender seems to come along well with each other. Although the SD's fileguard will still slow the system when it's concurrently run with BD's realtime protection. (it improved though)

I also observed that they take up a lot of memory space to run in the background which is expected anyway.

So if you are willing to go with combination of BD and SD, then I recommend you to have at least 2G RAM and disable file protection in either BD or SD.

Here's my 2c

Geeze.. have you guys ever heard of the KISS principle?

SD/AV/BG is about the best protection that you can get.

Why cobble the other stuff together and hope it works?
