ok, so my first problem has been solved, so I am taking a stab at another problem. Whenever I do a fresh startup I get a delay because my cpu goes through some type of memory test which adds an extra 45 secs to the boot process. I can abort it by pressing esc , but my system picked up this annoying habit and I don't like it ! Ideas?

Most systems provide a selection of boot options through the BIOS setup program. These options include quick boot which reduces the memory test time considerably. On Compaq machines I have seen an option to do this and also have a full boot at an interval specified by the user. This is a good idea as you want to ensure the integrity of the memory every now and again.
