Hi,
Every so often PCTAV fails to load correctly, the icon is greyed out. When you put the cursor over the icon it states 'Waiting for other programs to finish loading'.I've uninstalled & reinstalled a couple of times and I've now downloaded the Beta version with the same outcome.I've now had my computer on for 30 minutes and its still greyed out.All other programs load correctly including PCT Firewall. Also when its running I get the message 'PC Tools AV reports its out of date' I do a smart update and its up to date. I have it schedules to update every 6 hours now but it still shows out of date every so often. I've also had the PCT Firewall icon disappear, so that I didn't know if it was running or not.I go into the programs menu and click on PCT Firewall but the control centre does not come up. I restart my computer and it works fine.I have no other trouble with any other program on this computer they all load fine. Just PDTools programs play up. So I need help to sort out this problem. I've now been on the computer approx an hour and the PCTAV icon is still greyed out. I've checked Task manager and nothing is loading.
Regards

Hi Gurney,

A very strange problem
First off, could you try uninstalling and reinstalling the latest version of PCTAV (v5.0.0.16). For more info on the latest version, check out http://www.pctools.com/forum/showthread.php?t=53000.

The new version has replaced the beta some time ago.

If the problem is still occuring with this latest build, could you provide more info:
What operating system are you running?
What other security software is installed?

Hi,
Thank you for the reply, I'm running XP with SP3, other security PC Tools Firewall & Super Antispyware.I do a manual scan with Super Antispyware. I've only had the Beta version on a few days as it did it with version v5.0.0.16, so I changed it to see what happened.I've just turned on and both Pc Tools products have loaded ok, although PCAV reported it was out of date but I expect that was because I scheduled it to run earlier and the computer wasn't on.It usually is on at the time of Smartupdate but it still reports its out of date until I run Smartupdate again, it then tells me its up to date.I've only downloaded SP3 a couple of weeks but it did it with SP2, so its not that. As I said all other programs load & run ok. I installed version V5.0.0.16 as it says this is the latest version, can't find v5.0.0.17.

Sorry, I made a typo on the version number :o v5.0.0.16 is the lastest version :) So is everything ok with this version? or are you still experiencing the same problems in the first post?

Hi,
As I said it doesn't do it all the time. But, I've just noticed that the AV icon is missing in the task bar. It's not hidden and I've checked the windows security centre and it says its running. So I clicked on the AV in the menu and the control panel comes up, but it says it hasn't updated in 2 days and I've got it set for every 6 hours and once a day.It also states that I have not run a virus check and that is scheduled for everyday. The computer is on all day so that is no reason for it not to 'Do its thing'.The worring thing is I don't really know if I'm being protected or not half the time. As its going I might go back to AVG, but you can't schedule that, and I was happy with PC Tools products.

I've just installed a program for my Zen and restarted the computer.First the PCTAV didn't start and I got an error message saying AV has a problem, then asked to send an error report which I did.I started AV from the menu and it started ok. But wait the PCTFW icon is not showing!, so not knowing if it is running or not I clicked it in the menu but it won't bring up the control screen.I went the security in control and it says PCTFW is running. So I don't know where I am half the time.So if this is going to happen all the time I will uninstall and go back to my original set up.
