I installed Threatfire and rebooted my computer. Upon reboot my computer does not recognize my keyboard. Nothing on the keyboard works but the mouse works fine. And I cannot log into Vista. I only have my admin account.

All I did before reboot is clean with Ccleaner and Vista's cleaning tool like I have done a hundred times. Then I rebooted and noticed the PC Tools firewall pop up some yellow message as my computer rebooted but it was too late to do anything about it as my computer was rebooting. Upon reboot my keyboard is not recognized. Anyone know what I can do?

My theory is that between CC and Disk Cleanup that the temporary install files got removed. TF installs a keyboard driver (for anti-keylogging) and doesnt become active until after the reboot.

Its a pain but I would try to re-install TF. Boot up and if you need to enter a password at the login screen, click the 'Ease of use' button in the lowerleft corner. Select the checkbox to 'Type without the keyboard' and click apply. That will give you a way to click your password ;)

Proceed to re-install it. If you can disable the firewall temporarily for the installation. Reboot and you should be alright. If you use Windows Defender, be sure to open WinDef prior to rebooting to approve and pending actions such as startup items for Threatfire.

Alternately. When all else fails download this uninstaller to remove TF and restore keyboard functionality: http://www.threatfire.com/files/RemoveThreatFire(3.0).zip

The removal tool I posted earlier should have uninstalled everything including TF's KB driver. If that has failed, then a system restore might be the only option. After you restore your KB functionality, we can figure out what went wrong.

Try this thread it may help, others have had this problem before you. http://www.pctools.com/forum/showthread.php?t=52056

Read the thread and System Restore did the trick. Noticed a driver was being reinstalled after reboot. Thanks for all the help everyone- lots of good help here. Thanks again.

Out of curiosity....

I no longer use ThreatFire for quite some time now, and today I noticed that some drivers were still left behind, so I eliminated them

What happens? On next reboot I could no longer use the keyboard or touchpad on my laptop. I had to restore my system.

Why this happens?

Hi
One of the drivers from ThreatFire is installed in the keyboard layer to detect keyloggers.
Use the following tool to remove any traces of ThreatFire:

Hope that helps

After system restore I tried once again to install TF. Installed TF, rebooted. Upon reboot, no keyboard- just the mouse worked. Had to uninstall again and do another system restore. I did not use any cleaners before reboot this time either.

FWIW- after system restore everything went back to normal with the keyboard. Then just for the heck of it I ran that TF uninstaller - rebooted - no keyboard again. Had to do another system restore.

Hi
Have you tried using the file in my previous post? It is designed by the ThreatFire team to remove all traces of ThreatFire.

acr do you think someone is trying to tell you something ? Like perhaps this is not that long sought after security program you have dreamed of ? Next time you get all working on your computer, walk away very quickly from here, don't look back now, just walk away you know I'm right.

Finding some sort of HIPS program for a Vista OS is a chore. Thought I would take one last shot on TF.

If ThreatFire isn't working for you, you could try Dynamic Security Agent (http://www.privacyware.com/dynamic_security_agent.html) (includes a firewall)

DSA has a conflict with Vista- memory leak and bsod.

Have you tried System Safety Monitor? I dont think the free version has been updated for Vista SP1 but I know the paid v2.4.0.622 was released Aug 3 and supports Vista SP1.

I gave up SSM for TF. So its my #2 choice.

Really? I've used it with no problems. Do you have a link to any further information?

Disk4mat's suggestion is also OK. My only reservation about SSM is that there are endless popups which don't really tell you enough information. It also requires quite a lot of knowledge about how Windows works.

Also, if you check task manager or process explorer after using Webroot's firewall a hile you may see that it is consuming a large amount of memory. Not sure if that still is the case- but it was for several users a short time back.
