question about spyware doctor w/ av

im just wondering is this just a scanner and remover for threats or does this also act like a fire wall? and if i dont really download anything, i dont like torrent music or really fiel share or anything. is this all i really need, as of right now i have nothing as far as security besides the built in windows fire wall for xp, which i know is pretty crap compared to ones you can buy seperate, so is spywhare doctors w/av the only thin i need if im not really doing alot, or is there mroe things i should get as well?

also if anyone has any basic info of stuff i should know please feel free to inform me, im not really good with computers and mostly just do it for email that i get from my sister we exchange picture of our kids and what not and also i player a few video games every once in a while.

SD+Av have real time protection and it works very well
AS for the second question,yes even if you not share music etc,you need a av
Please note in your case do not use other av product since sd+av have av plugin.Using sd+av and a second av program means you are using 2 av programs and it will be cause bsod and conflicts
Since you Already have spyware and viruses protection ,(since you use sd+av) i would like sugest to you use a good firewall

vecchio's post was excellent.. i will just mention that you could opt to use a different antivirus program, if you wanted to.. i think "avast" would be a good choice, if you are looking for a free av program..

there is nothing wrong with using the windows firewall.. it works fine.. i am just saying that you don't have to use a different firewall, unless you just want to..

You have to be joking even suggesting that windows firewall even close to being enough.
Use Comodo 3 or OnlineArmor , free ,up to date ,and much better than 95% of other firewalls.

SD+AV is a very good program and the PC Tools Firewall combined as suggested by others.

Another thing you might want to check out is the free Browser defender. Definitely a useful tool and is available for both Internet Explorer and Firefox. If interested have a look at www.browserdefender.com.

FW, TF, SD+AV works perfectly for me.. On my servers FW and SD+AV seem to catch more pest. It's hard to believe the others never works so well as PC Tools does. Still you have a lot of choices to go with.
