(apologies, I hadn't a clue which section to post this in)

Hello all,

I'm yet another peeved soul who just spotted a payment taken from my account for a subscription to a PC Tools product, without me approving it. Seems like I didn't spot the auto-renewal thing either when I signed up. (Is this legal??)

My added problem is that I have no clue what product it is or what email address I used to sign up (it's not one I use now), so I can't access my account on this site or check what communication I received from PC Tools about this.

I've been using a new computer for the past year or so and I haven't installed any PC Tools product on it - and I no longer have the old computer.

Is there any way I can sort this out? Help!

Thanks.

Thanks for replying Vecchio, but unfortunately I don't have the license details, I don't have any details at all. I've just emailed PC Tools and I'm hoping they can help me out, I really what this auto-renewal to stop! Thanks again.

Hi JC_McD,

Could you send me your email address, even the one thats not being used anymore (Email address used to make the original purchase) in a Private Message and I will try to help locate the purchase.

Fore more info on the auto-renewals, check out http://www.pctools.com/forum/showthread.php?t=50304

Is this legal??

Allow me to quote part of the License Agreement you should have read before purchasing the product.

SUBSCRIPTION PURCHASES

If you are purchasing the Software on a subscription basis, then, unless your license is terminated earlier in accordance with the EULA, you agree to allow us to automatically extend your right to receive support and updates for successive periods equal to the length of the initial term, by directly charging your credit card or debiting your debit card prior to each anniversary of the date of purchase for an amount that is no greater than PC Tools' then current price of the Software, excluding promotional and discount pricing. The software support and updates you receive during any renewal term will be as specified in these terms and conditions or as specified by us from time to time.

If you have selected a method of payment other than credit card and direct debit, your subscription will only be renewed if you provide us with a valid payment prior to the anniversary of the date of purchase. We will email you prior to this date to remind you to renew your account.

Okay, those were the conditions as laid out by PC Tools - but still I ask, are they legal?

If you agreed to it, it's legal.

As the previous post points out, others (e.g., Symantec) do it also.
Go ask them if it's legal.
