What you can do is temporarily disable the Firewall and AV software and see if you can update Spyware Doctor. If it works you'll be able to figure out what is blocking it and you can try adding it to the allowed list. If this doesn't work then, it could be related to a Nvidia issue. If you have Nvidia Network Access Manager, see below:
Nvidia Firewall/Nvidia Network Access Manager is blocking the Spyware Doctor update.
We have contacted Nvidia regarding this issue and they have advised us to ask customers to disable the Nvidia firewall/Nvidia Network Access
Manager as it has been discontinued and is an outdated product compared with current available firewall software.
If you temporarily disable the ForceWare Intelligent Application Manager (IAM) or Nvidia Network Access Manager (NAM), this should allow Spyware Doctor to update.
Please complete the steps below:
1. Start > Run > Type in: services.msc > Click OK
2. The services window should open, scroll down the list, right click on ForceWare Intelligent Application Manager (IAM) or Nvidia Network Access Manager (NAM) and select Stop
3. Run the Spyware Doctor Smart Update while the IAM/NAM is disabled
4. To enable IAM/NAM again, right click and select start.
You may want to contact Nvidia as see if there is an allow list to add the Spyware Doctor processes into.

Could you please send me your email address in a Private Message and I'll be able to assist you further. It appears that you have purchased a new code instead of renewing the original code. Once I receive the email I will be able to assist you right away. Please note that the Support team is here for anyone if needed. There may be a slight delay with replies at the moment. However, the Support team is available 24/7 and normally tickets are replied to within a 24hr period.

Hi,
I purchased this tool a while ago and have just recently re-installed it. Whenever I try to start up the tool it tells me "the malware removal databases have not been installed and...." So then I click run live update, it connects fine and checks the net and tells me the product is up to date. Then I try to open the tool again and the process repeats, I can't actually get into the application to run anything, it's quite frustrating, could someone offer a hand?
Thanks,
Jonathan

I wouldn't worry much tough, I was just reading some of the other areas of this forum and it seems to be a bug in the software, other people are having the same exact problem as us, this just freaked me because coincidentally I suspected spyware on machine and then this error came out....Really freaked me out.

Hi, i have a similar problem with muzz123 and i'd appreciate any help...here's my computer's info:
Windows Vista home basic 32-bit
RAM 2GB
dual CPU T3200 @2.GHz 2GHz
Everytime i try to run the Spyware Doctor, it says that the malware removal databases aren't installed and must be downloaded before the product can be used.so i click on the "Run Smart Update" option but in the end it shows a failure icon which says "Update Failed.Error downloading the list of updates.please try again later".I uninstalled it and installed again twice, but neither the automatic way in the installation process works..And i can't find the IAM/NAM in services.msc, maybe because i don't have these.i'm looking forward for helping infos...Thanks a lot.

Could you send me the license code that SD is registered to via Private Message as it looks like this code has already expired.

Hi, I am having the same problem as mentioned earlier in this thread. Spyware doctor tells me I need to update my database for malware threats. So I do the smart update, which seems to work fine. However I still cannot open up Spyware doctor afterwards.

When did you start experiencing this problem? did this only recently occur? or is this your first time installing SD and experienced problems?
What version of SD are you running?
Does it include the AntiVirus plugin?
What other security programs do you have installed?
Could you go into safemode and see if SD is working?
