View Full Version : To those 64 bit users switching from Spyware Doctor...

...since there is no support,
what programs are you considering switching to?
My two top choices are 'CounterSpy' and 'Spy Sweeper' but I need a few more reviews.
At this stage there are no immediate plans for our programs to be re-developed to work under 64-bit systems. However if demand increases, this will be revised.
I just find that a really odd statement coming from a company providing security software yet not even feigning concern for the future of security. If the programmers can't/don't want to handle it, just stop. 32 bit will become obsolete, as eventually 64 bit...think about it, Google it even :p
I just want a refund already! of course, an update would be nicer ;)

I agree, I now run Vista and now I can't load PC Spyware with antivirus as it does not support 64 bit windows. If this is the case I would like a refund also. I also find it hard to believe that a company can not meet the demands of increasing technolgy.

Hi
Please contact AChen here on the board by Private Message about using the 64bit BETA version of Spyware Doctor.
Hope that helps

I'm also running Vista 64-bit on a new machine and was surprised to find that there wasn't an updated Spyware Doctor for this. I have Spyware Doctor on my XP machines. I tried to see if it would at least scan networked drives, but only the local HDs appear under the scanning options.
I am also running TrendMicro Internet Security. (There is a 64-bit version of TM available.) It wasn't installed when my husband clicked on one of these fake AV links and we have a nasty trojan on his PC. That dropped a file, 8L8J5XS3.exe into the %windows\system32% dir and added itself to the registry. It prevented TM from retrieving virus pattern updates; kept displaying a connectivity error. The ad-ware or whatever this junk is, kept announcing, "Congratulations!! YOU have been selected to receive a $1,000 Walmart gift card!".
So I located SD and re-registered it, did a scan and came up with viruses under Possible_Hifrm-5.
The hubby still wants the gift card. :p
And the SD is still scanning.

Happy 2009! May it bring us a 64-bit Spyware Doctor...
I started using Spyware Doctor a few years ago when other products had not protected my system adequately. When I purchased Spyware Doctor it cleaned all the garbage off that computer except one piece. Using the Malware Detective component of Spyware Doctor, I submitted my remaining problem to Spyware Doctor. Within a couple of days Spyware Doctor had created a fix for it and incorporated the fix into the system. It corrected my remaining problem.
I was very impressed to get such an excellent response. I have been using Spyware Doctor ever since on 3 successive computers without ever having another problem.
I recently got a new computer running with Vista 64 bit. The trial anti-virus software that came pre-installed expired this morning. I uninstalled it and then tried to download Spyware Doctor only to receive the pop-up message that 64 bit was not supported by Spyware Doctor. I was surprised.
Reading the posts on this thread leads me to believe that there is a 64 bit beta version of Spyware Doctor in existence and hence a new version in the works. I will await its deployment.

Adobe's CS4 release of Photoshop and the rest of their photo/video/illustration products has pushed a large number of their users (including me) to jump to Vista 64. It's the only way to give the photo and video editing applications more than 3GB of memory. Since Adobe is now taking good advantage of multiple cores and large amounts of memory, their competitors will have to follow quickly. This is a classic example of how new platforms pick up momentum.
I'm going to sign up to try the 64-bit beta, but if I don't see evidence that PCTools is going to support 64-bit soon, I'll have to look for another product. I've been very happy with PCTools, and I'd rather not do that, but it's up to PCTools to get with the future. I've been programming since 1968, and I've seen many once-successful companies die because they were slow to support the next platform. They lost momentum and were displaced by competitors that were quicker to move ahead and were already entrenched when the tipping point was reached. I didn't have any trouble installing Norton 360 on Vista 64. I didn't have any trouble installing some of Systweak's products either. Deja vu...

The 32 bit Spyware Doctor works great, but we now have a 64 bit system. Well it looks like private message time since I really don't want to shop for a new Spyware vendor

I agree. I have a new 64bit HP computer running Vista 64bit. The most annoying thing my subscription runs until November which now a waste of money

Seems like a good way to lose business by not keeping up with the newer systems.
However they do at least have something in place to try. You / we could become beta testers for the 64 bit version. I have PMed AChen about becoming a beta tester and now I am waiting to see what happens with it.
Give that a try maybe?

How quickly should I anticipate a response from AChen? Is this request still the appropriate channel to receive the Beta Software?

Well I to think they (and all other software vendors) should get into 64bit. windows needs at least 2gb of ram just to run windows smothly compaired to xp which needed 1gb. I mutitask and have 8GB of ram installed I personaly cant see how I could run with 3gb of ram (what windows 32 bit can only utalise). With the new windows 7 who knows how much ram we will need for that hopefully its no more then vista as every one would have to go to 64bit if it is.

Hi
I've been testing the new Windows 7 BETA and it is faster than Vista by a long margin. It also uses less RAM. I have it running just fine on a 5-year-old laptop that was previously running XP (unable to upgrade to Vista because it is too slow).
