I'm not sure if this is a registry problem or not. If not, I hope you'll forgive me posting here.

On my old computer, running Win98, both the active and inactive window border sizes were set to zero in Display > Appearance. I preferred the look of the desktop with these settings, and since building my own machine have been trying to make the same change.

I'm running the same version of Win98 but have so far been unable to set the window borders to zero. I can enter a zero in both 'size' boxes in the dialogue, but clicking OK or Apply has no effect on the appearance, and next time I open the dialogue they have both been reset to 1. I can change them to a larger value without any problem.

I'm starting to wonder if I'd made a change to the registry on my old machine which allowed the border size to be set to zero, hence my post here. The only alternative I can think of is that I had installed some third-party software which had this effect, but I can't think what.

Is there a registry key which controls the active and inactive window border sizes? Thanks in advance for any help.

I don't think that info is in the registry. Open your win.ini and look over this section. Mine is just an example:

[colors]
ActiveBorder=214 211 206
InactiveBorder=214 211 206
