I have been having general recognition problems
with my system properly using, and identifing my USB peripherals.
I had been using my Microtek SlimScan C3,
with no problems, then, all at once it stopped working.
At first, I thought that it was a problem with my scanner.
But, then I bought a USB external ZIP drive,
and I cannot seem to get either working.
From various toying and reinstalls I occasionally get a response from
my scanner, light comes on, acts like it is initializing.
but it never completly works. I have tried every upgrade
that I can find, but it still doesn't work.

Since the initial errors, my system has been picking up
on things related to SCSI interface. I used to have a
BIOS setting that just gave boot sequence options for
a bootup of A: then C:. Now, it does not give me an
option without SCSI, In the boot sequence.

Is this a straight BIOS problem, or is it something that
can be changed in the System Registry?

I have also recently upgraded the BIOS chip, with no effect.
(Ugrade through UNICORE)

Any or all responses would be greatly appriciated.

if you are using win98(this article says win98se but it works for 98) and a motherboard with a via chipset and an AMD CPU there is a known issue with recognition of sone USB devices. the fix is here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/release.asp?ReleaseID=12904
you can let me know privately or here as to the result...:)
