Hi,
My starter edition took an update last week & said it needed a reboot
to install it, which I did.
When it restarted it had become a trial version & said also No A/V Engine present.
I have tried uninstalling but it keeps updating to a trial version.
Please explain how I can fix this issue?
Thanks

Sounds like you might be downloading the trial version of SD instead of the Starter Edition.
Download the Starter Edition Google pack from http://www.pctools.com/spyware-doctor/google_pack/.
One other thing, have you purchased a license code for SD? If so you'll need to register SD with the license name and code. Note that the starter edition does not come with the AV.

I'm having the same problem. I had the Starter Edition, and after running Smart Update it turned into the trial version.

I got the same problem after i downloaded the updates then said was on the trail version, So i removed it and Made sure i downloaded the starter edition, even said Starter edition at the bottom but once again after i installed the Updates it went right back to the Trail version. and computer protected was turned off and on command or whatever you call it was disable.. and couldn't enable it or turn it back on..
So i now have it removed. :(
Any solutions?

You might use the trial version bro..
To tell the difference
1. On the main screen, check if you can see an 'Upgrade' button instead of a 'Register' button.
2. In the Tools section of Spyware Doctor, the Google Pack version contains limited functionality and only shows one tool in 'OnGuard' - File Guard.
If you see many tools, then you have the normal trial version installed instead.
If you got trial version, uninstall it and install from
http://www.pctools.com/spyware-doctor/google_pack/

and make sure you do not click on the upgrade warning on the Status Screen!

Hi All,
We managed to find the bug (starter version changing into trial version after an update) and have implemented a fix (note: this is only occuring with older builds of SD and has been resolved). Please run a Smart Update for the fix.
First there's:
Starter edition
Google pack
Trial version
Full (paid) version
Then there's:
AV or no AV
And there's:
old releases (still in use)
current release
beta release
Presumably, some/most are multiplicative
(combinations and permutations).
Tooooooooooo many versions.
This causes a demand on customer support, and on the
developers when CS can't solve a problem (e.g., new problem).
The load it puts on the PCT "system" results in extended time
to resolve issues. It also takes resources away from product
development.
This is all a bad strategy.

Could you provide a screenshot of the error message and attach it to this thread?
