I am seeing what seems to be really strange to me and everyone else I talk to and all I can see so far is that Spyware Doctor is causing it.

I have a PC connected to a Comcast Cable modem through a vonage box. When I have it like that my PC seems to run just fine.

Now when I install a Linksys router (I have tried 2) and then connect the PC up the whole PC seems to slow down.

I launched internet explorer and it takes forever and when I look at task manager SWDoctor was taking over 90% of the CPU. Explorer loads and then connects etc, but I am trying to figure out why when a router is installed Spyware Doctor slows the whole PC down. I have tried looking through the help but it is somewhat worthless as far as saying what settings actually do.

In addition I have connected mutliple other PCs to the router both wirelessly and hardwired and none of them have any problems.

Any ideas why the PC slows down with a router or how to setup Spyware Doctor so it doesn't hog the processor?

Currently I am using Spyware Doctor version 4.0.0.2621

Hi
This sounds like Spyware Doctor's Network Guard is trying to scan your network settings. Can you try disabling this one guard to see if it makes a difference?
Hope that helps

I went in and turned off the 4 settings and it still hogs the processor especially on boot.

I need to see if maybe it gets better over time but currently when I first log in it takes all the processor etc.

I also have McAfee... would that have any effect?

Try out version 4.1 - http://www.pctools.com/spyware-doctor/version4/ its an upgrade to the version you are using and should be better.

What you can also try is disabling SDv4.0 at start up and wait for everything to load and then start up SDv4.0 just to see if this helps. At least you'll know what is causing it. Let McAfee start up first as well.

Cheers,

If you are running McAfee, there will be conflicts.

Rule #1..only one online Anti-virus, only one online Anti-spyware, only one Firewall.

Also, make sure that you have the latest firmware updates for your router.

On one of my machines, im running SDv5.5.1.322 with McAfee with no problems at all. On the others, I have PCTIS with TF, this set up is quite neat.
I remember a while back, there was an issue with McAfee's latest version not allowing the installation of SD4, where people had to upgrade to SD5. I don't know if this has been fixed or not, but haven't heard much on this for a while.

I would agree with both chippa and haapy. Install SD4.1 and test if there is indeed a conflict. You could also try running SD4.1 in safemode with networking and see if you get the slow down, this way you can single out if its SD or a conflict with other software. Also try disabling Onguard to see whether this helps or not and make sure you have the latest firmware updates as suggested. It is strange for this to just start occuring out of the blue :)
