Just wondering if anyone can help me with this problem. I've got a PIII450, 128MB RAM, and running Win98.

My computer has a habit of locking up at least once every day. It locks up more frequently when playing PC games (counter strike especially).

I've tried Defragging and Scandisk (overnight and during day), and it never completes (the contents of defrag and scandisk keeps restarting). I have a 30gb hdd (quantum).

It's a common problem i guess, but it's happening way too frequently. The only thing i haven't tried is Defrag and Scandisk in Safe mode. Dunno if this might work.

So can anyone offer ANY suggestions about how to resolve this problem?? It'd be greatly appreciated.

For the scandisk and defrag there is most likely a background program that is bugging causing it to restart...safe mode would fix that.

and for the locks it could be the same problem...check in MSCONFIG and see what programs are running, they might be the colpirt.....you may also want to re-install the video drivers.

Yeah i have that problem too. You have to end programs the programs that you don't need in the background and its always good to restart your computer if you're goin to play a game. But thats probably the problem too is other programs. Are you doin anything else while you're playin like downloadin or something cuz that could be the problem and if you're not usin the internet for the game you should disconnect cuz that could slow it down too.
