I installed v 5.5.1.322 yesterday. Everything was OK until I had to reboot. As soon as SD loaded, my PC froze. I was finally able to uninstall SD after booting up in safe mode.
Can someone PLEASE tell me how to go back to the previous SD release until this gets fixed????

Which version were you after?
What other applications do you have starting up with SD?
Try installing the latest version in safemode and see if this helps.

Katie,
I'm not sure of the version number. It's the one just before 5.5.1.322.
The only other app I use besides SD is AVG anti-virus. I'll try doing the install in safe mode and see if that helps, but I'm not too optimistic. I've installed and un-installed SD 4 times over the last few days and nothing has worked. It is still freezing my computer.

I'm having all sorts of problems with SD v5.5.1.322. It freezes my computer, so I've un-installed it and would like to go back to the previous version, which worked fine.
Can someone please tell me where I can find it???

This is impossible since the site always provide the current version for download
I suggest to you always keep your old version setup
Maybe Anthony can provide you a previous setup file

Can you run task manager as soon as you boot to determine if it is SD or if it is SVCHost locking your system?

Have you also got any other security programs running?
Could you make sure that kernel compatibility mode has been enabled? (settings-> general)

The only other security software is AVG anti-virus (with the anti-spyware function enabled). I enabled the kernel compatibility mode is SD.
I've seen suggestions that I manually start SD. I tried that, but as soon as the OnGuard protection was turned on, my computer froze. SD is not very useful to me without the real-time protection.
This is very frustrating. Can I get the v5.5.1.212 to download? I'd rather use that for now.

You are not alone having problems. So have I and other people, just read the forum. The last version of SD is completely buggy, so I disable real-time protection and my OS works perfect now.
What I do not understand why PC Tools treats us customers who paid for software like testers. Are we?
This is completely wrong policy.
I understand that new version could have some bugs, that it is not easy to make new version, a lot of communications with other security programs and other programs , etc.. Ok, it is life and nothing is perfect in this world. But, if it does not work properly for a month and forum is full of complaints about bugs then call it back and return previous version that was more stable until you fix it.
I do not accept advices in forum like this:
- Disable some Guard, might be it will help
- update in safe mode, etc.
- disable you antivirus
Really, it is laugh.
I turned off Spyware Doctor and I have not any problem at all. This a solution for bugs.
100% solution.
Is it security program or what?
Might be should I also make my Antivirus semi- functional and be happy and feel that my pc is protected? Do not make me laugh, please.
I really liked SD, but completely disappointed with the last version and with the policy of PC Tools of treating their customers.

I think PC Tools response to this problem has been just AWFUL. Why isn't the previous (WORKING) version of SD being made available for re-install???
SD came highly recommended by people I respect. When I bought it, I believed it would do what was promised and be adequately supported. I was very happy with SD until I installed v 5.5.1.322. I have almost nine months remaining on my subscription, but at this point, that subscription is USELESS.
At the very least, those of us who wish to go back to the previous version of SD should be able to do so. Why is this not an option???

Greyhound, I agree that you are not suppose to disable guards because its causing a problem. Of course pctools won't want you to disable a feature because its causing problems. The reason users suggest this is simple, its to test out what guards are causing the problem so that it can be analyzed better to put a fix in place. Say for example File guard is conflicting with another softwares real time protection where the company cannot reproduce the problem... its a difficult task to put in a fix if you dont know what the other software is doing on that particular pc.
Try checking other forums and see how they are doing, you'll see the exact same trend and some are alot worse. You think there are alot of people having problems because whenever someone has problems they come here, so it looks like lots, but I think the postings have quieten downed alot. If you've never had a problem with SD would you type a post? I would think not.
KBPrez, I can see that the SD team are always working on resolving these issues at hand, especially on this forum. I'm sure they are working on resolving you're issues. Send a PM to achen, i'm sure he'll help you further as his the go to guy by the look of things and doing good things on this forum. It might also help to isolate the problem, seeing you if you can determine a specific tool causing the freezing? my guess would probably be File Guard.
Peaceout

Hi KBPrez,
Could you send a screenshot of you're startup items by going to start-> run-> type msconfig-> startup tab.
Could you please download and run a free analysis tool from Belarc to provide more information about your reported computer problem; this tool will take a snapshot of Windows and create a report for us to analyze.
A tool such as the attached Belarc Advisor will provide a comprehensive list of all applications used on your system.
The Belarc Advisor creates a detailed listing of your installed software and hardware, Microsoft hotfixes, anti-virus status and displays the results in your Web browser. It is only gathering information of your system, it will not make any alterations to your system.
All of your PC profile information is kept private on your PC and is not sent to any web server. We will also keep this information strictly confidential when it is sent back to us.
Please download the Belarc Advisor file from: http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html
* After you have run the Advisor tool from Belarc, send us the 'html' report files from following location:
C:\Program Files\Belarc\Advisor\System\tmp\
Please send this info to my email address sent via PM and do NOT post this on the forum.

AChen, thank you for your offer, but I'm going to take a pass. I've un-installed SD. I'm not willing to re-install it knowing that it will freeze my computer. For the time being, I am relying on AVG, Windows Defender, and CCleaner to handle spyware.

I'm not one to moan but people like this are rude and stupid!!! With the help of people sending in this info, pctools can fix these issues making the next build version more stable, it doesn't just help you but also many people who are in the same situation. And obviously when you don't take the 2 minutes to help your not helping others.

Really how does this help anyone????? PCTools programmers work very hard to give us a great product and for the minority that has problems they also work very hard to fix the bugs ready for the next release. Show some damn respect!!!!! Your ignorance isn't clever it just makes you look a fool!!!

simonsimple, I am neither rude nor stupid. I work from home and need my computer for my job. I spend as much as 12 hours a day working and cannot afford to install software that makes my computer unusable.

I'm sure out of your 12 hours working you could spend 5 minutes to install the program, run a report and uninstall the program, it appears from the amount of posts, most of which are unproductive, you've already spent a considerable amount of time here on the forums and not infact working?
Spare a few minutes to help yourself and others, it makes forums a happy place :)

Had the exact same problem with these poeple since March, went around with "tech support" for a couple of weeks. They can't help you because no one figured out what the problem is after 2 months!!! They'll end up saying go back to version 4. Finally ended up deleting SD altogether and won't be renewing. Just search this forum and you'll see all kinds of problems. Went with Trend Micro. I have a fast PC again...

Simionsimple: I have to disagree with you 100% for this simple reason!
I am not a paid beta tester for SPYWARE Doctor - I purchased SPYWARE DOCTOR with my HARD EARNED MONEY - SPYWARE DOCTOR continues daily to take in revenue for a product that DOES NOT WORK

Didnt U mean to say: PC-Tools :D or SW Doctor
Other than that, I can relate to yer frustration ;) Uninstalling seems best option so far with one year subs remaining ... ah well only money right
Seriously I trust these guys to fix it for us, all they need are some good beta testers... So sign up folks

I have found that the freeze ups are more due to XP SP3 than SD.
Check this site out.

I had the smae issues and this fixed it.

haapy,
I had regular freezes in Vista Ult SP1 and conflicts with other programs (not AV or AS).
Just I disable SD real-time protection and problem has gone.
OS runs smooth.

Greyhound,
I have SD/AV on my Vista machine, full protection, no problem.
I am not well versed in Vista, so I am afraid that I can not help much here.
I know that the XP fix I outlined fixed my XP SP3 hangups.

As of today there is no fix for Vista!
