View Full Version : Secure Community Pop-Up: What Are the 'Suspicious Files'?

Since upgrading to Spyware Doctor with AntiVirus 5.5.1.322, I've gotten a couple of Secure Community pop-ups alerting me to "Suspicious Files Detected" and asking permission to submit them to the Malware Research Center.
This seems like a great feature, but is there any way to see the contents of the files (or at least the file names) before answering? I can image some files that you might not want to share for analysis, even if they'd become infected ... .

Something might have happened lately in the scanning system as I had the same experience today. It prooved out that PCTIS during boot-up detected an old quarantine file from a 'forgotten' SAS installation. Do a full scan and find out what is detected, most likely a quarantine file from another app.

I had the same popup, although nothing was detected in the full scan, so it seemed a bit a strange.

I don't think the new dialog is an alert to known malware, but rather a note that the newer, smarter Spyware Doc has found something amiss and wants to pass it along to the Malware Research team to determine if it might be something new. (Spyware Doctor seems to be moving in the direction of identifying more zero-day threats and staying on the bleeding edge of malware.)
While I don't mind contributing data to the effort (anonymously, of course), there are some files I don't want sent across the 'net at all. Given that there are far more paranoid people than me out there, I can imagine the same reluctance keeping a lot of otherwise useful reports from being sent.
The ideal solution, I think, would be an option to view the files being sent (or at least the file names), so you could make an informed choice on the fly.
(For what it's worth, my chief peeve with Spyware Doc is a wish for a tiny bit more transparency — I still wonder what those "ignored files" are whenever they show up in my scan results. :D )

Ideal solution - It seems like a good idea.
ignored files - Do you have ignored files when you have no items in Global Actions List??

I've been saying that for months. AdAware tells you the file names. So far no response from PCT.

I have six files marked as exceptions in my Global Action List, but (currently) a Full Scan with SDwAV will return 13 "Ignored Files." In an ideal world, it seems I should be able to click on that and view the Ignored Files, possibly even adding them to the Global Action List with a single click if I wanted Spyware Doc to always consider them "clean."
