I got up this morning and noticed that SD had updated itself to a new version (I am guessing v5.5.0.212) and required a reboot to complete the process. I restarted Windows and now all that happens is I get a blinking cursor on my screen right after the BIOS post and before the Windows XP splashscreen. I've tried a restarting the system from the reset switch to turning off the PC for a few minutes and waiting. Nothing helps. I can't even get into Safe Mode or try to use the Last Good Known Configuration.

Help!!

System Info
P4 3.0 Ghz
Windows XP Pro SP3
Intel D865PERL Motherboard
1 gig ram
McAfee Virus & Firewall

Hi korafa,

I have just double checked and we have not released any upgrades in the Smart Updates, only signature DB's. What was the version you were running of SD? has it always been v5.5.0.212?

Theres the possibility that this is a hardware failure, from the info you have provided.
You might also want to try a Windows Repair if you have the windows CD, but if its a hardware failure, this will not work and you might need to bring you PC to a shop to get it looked at.

Normally if its software related, you should still be able to get into safemode or last known good config. and sort it out there.
