5.5.1.322 locked by system

I did an update with 5.5.1.322 this morning and the update screen and SD couldn’t be closed down Task Manager reported they were locked by system. I couldn’t do a screen dump and had to close he PC down from Task Manager to get rid of them.

I have XP Home SP3.

When you reboot the PC do you still have the lockups or was this just the once off?

Had another one after doing todays updates.I managed screen dumpmthis time and attached.

Update- I found automatic updates waqs on, using 4 I always manually did updates. Could my doing an update as it is trying to do its own pdate be causing the problem? If so its odd there is no warning updates is already running if you do a manual update.

Try to disable Rootkit scans and Startup Guard. See if that helps.

Hi John,

There should be no problems if you try to run a manual update while SD is performing a scheduled/automatic update. Could you let me know if you come across the the problem again?

Ive had the same problem with Spyware Doctor freezing up when I was doing an up date..... had to reboot my system

It made no difference as it locked up again this afternoon! Its getting a real pain as yo have to reboot the computer to get rid of the ***** thing!
In closing pctsGus.exe (I think) had to be closed.

John and Victorash, could you tell us exactly when the hang occurs? does it hang when the list of updates is about to start, or before that or is it during a specific file that it is downloading? It would be good to get a screenshot exactly when it hangs if possible, but I understand that you might not be able to do this as well.

In my case the four times its done it have been after the update, it finishes (which is why I am trying to get rid of it!) but you can’t then close it I had didn't have this problem befor SP3 so maybe thats made a change (or one of the SD updats since then!). As itb desn't always do it, 2-3 updat runs no problem so all I could do is a screen dump of the update finshed message, there is no errer message! The Locked by system comes when you try to close it using task manager.

I have found a "work round".You close SD after starting update, BRFOR running update. Done this a number of times now with no lockcup. Problem isunless some one says when the problem is fixed I will never know when its safe to retun to just running bupdate!
