Computer won't shut off.

Win 98 SE. When I select Start>ShutDown>ShutDown the stupid machine does a Restart. Ditto if I use Ctrl+Alt+Del then Shut Down. What in the Wide and Wonderful World of Windows is wrong with my machine?

Have you read at least Problems Shutting Down Windows 98 Second Edition (http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B238096&x=10&y=14)
or
WINDOWS SHUTDOWN & RESTART CENTER (WINDOWS 98 SECOND EDITION) (http://www.aumha.org/win4/a/shtdwnse.php)?

Yep. Found that I had somehow set ON a stupid flag called "Fast Shutdown." Win98SE does NOT like that! Used a registery editor to set the flag OFF. Works fine now.

Good news. However, Fast shutdown is enabled by default. Disabling fast shutdown may be necessary when you are troubleshooting shutdown problems in Windows 98. (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/187607)
